Have a 2004 Freightliner Columbia with 12.7 DDEC 4. The red engine protection light comes on every so often after the truck gets to around 60. No response at the pedal but engine remains running. After you slow down eventually you can take off again. The truck does not show any codes when the light comes on and none show up on inactive while this or right after this occurs. I did find an inactive code before I started working on it for 1 occurrence of Sid 21 fmi 0 missing timing Pulse. And later another of Sid 21 fmi 1. Would that code make the engine protection light come on and not flash a code when it happens? I have only been able to get the light to come on once during my road tests but the owner said the driver was having big issues. I would think if it was th timing sensor I would have multiple occurrences.

I've found that no codes usually means a voltage/wiring issue on my 12.7's. One that eluded me ended up being a corroded "waterproof" fuse holder.

I agree with a voltage or ignition power related issue. If the light is coming on for a fault, the ECM will log the code. If there is no codes logging, either the ECM is faulty, or very briefly and rapidly it is loosing ignition power. Usually with ignition power faulty you will get both the Check, and Stop engine lights coming on for the initial bulb check.

in 2010,i was having problems w/intermittent jakes, power felt low,low voltage, fan coming on and staying on, i forget what else.Turned out that the wiring harness was bad. engine is 2003 12.7 430/470 turning 2250.anyway,hope you got her straightened out.
Jersey_boy Thanks this. -
I think that Williams Detroit finally got it fixed. AFTER they installed a new ECM, the TRS and SRS sensors, and a wiring harness. I think it turned out it was a broken wire some where in a power wire. I will verify this information the next time I see him but he did get it going again. Thanks
