The big detroits I have had all like to lug down to 1250. But enjoyed 1400-1600 which is pretty much it for this engine. If you cannot hold cruise at this rpm you are probably on a upgrade. She should settle before 1250 otherwise downshift and repeat as necessary until you do settle on that upgrade.
If it's a tiny midwestern slope that takes 10 miles to climb 100 feet, I cannot help you. The emissions etc has really castrated engines in general. -
An 09 14 Detroit is a Ddec 6 it looks like it has DD15 parts on intake and such. They are very problematic. 07 and under is way different. No diesel truck should be ran hard under 1200 rpm except to start moving. Just keep it above 1400 when climbing. And you need to run it hard to keep the dpf clean. So just rev it going up grades. I'm surprised that 14 has not been rebuilt yet unless it's been custom tuned.

Ddec6 is about the worst Detroit series 60 there is... terrible engine.
It was the bridge engine between the ddec5 and dd15. Nothing but issues.
The ecm on these engines is perty much on a hair trigger. Don't take much to set off the check engine light. Lolspsauerland Thanks this. -

the waste gate has nothing to do with turbo spool. its the injector timing, you will need to have "someone" reprogram the timing. I "suggest" you turn on your CB in the Effingham or Kenley, nc areas. or maybe read this:
Diesel Doctor.....OMFG!!!
