I know this is a very old thread but something I don't understand is the comment: "How would you make a shim that thin and how would you hold it in place?" I don't understand because the shim sits in the counter bore and the liner goes inside of it and shim gets pinched between liner lip and counter bore. How can it not stay in place? Where is it going to go. Also, making thin shims. I have made my own shims many times. If I can't buy the shim size I want I go buy shim stock and cut what I need. It's always the thinner sizes that you can't find.

I repeat, I machine a counterbore into the liner seat .024", or .058" deep, for the shim to lay in.
