Hi guys,
Wondering if anyone could help me out. I recently purchased a peterbilt 379 with a stock ddec2 .it was a local truck but I plan to run otr. The person I purchased it from said it had a inframe about 4 yrs ago (no paperwork)and a new bull gear 3 yrs ago as Well as A Oil Cooler ( has paperwork for The Oil Cooler) said the previous Owner Did The Work.. when i test Drove, no lag in the engine No Issues When empty or bobtailing didnt overheat but when pulling a load it gets hot. the head gasket is leaking and it has some blow by. My question is, I know it will need a head gasket From what I Can See but while I have the head open should I replace anything else on it? I've never owned a detriot engine before so any advice will be appreciated . Thanks

I think those years didn’t have oil squirters for the pistons so you had to watch how high you turned up the power otherwise they got hot .

Unless everything looks brand new, then I would do a inframe while the head is off. Then you’ll know what you have and will be good to go for several years.

Thats what I was Thinking Too For Peace Of Mind ,Thank You. would you happen to know what would be a good Inframe kit? Also what would you recommend for Injectors?

Those det. eng. most all have some blow/by,Just start out pulling the a/c conn. off to side without taking the a/c lines louse, then you can pull the air to air intake cooler off and clean the FT. side of rad. off and both sides of air cooler (tape up both ends before cleaning) then clean A/C con. then you should have more air going thru. your rad. and cool running motor with a small amount of work, if your head gasket is just leaking some oil down side of block and not putting coolant into oil its something that some of them just do?

Good info, Thank you

If no paperwork it probably didn't happen. Who throws out those records especially if it brings 5k+ or better when your selling it

With no paper work that inframe never happened, hope your price reflected that. Just inframe it if you are going into it
