Unless you are local and good with wrenches that is an extremely bad idea, most anything from 79.
Oil pressure at idle is low 10? and high at speed 80+?
Run her about 1750 for about 30 minutes and then let it idle. If it is poring oil out the slober tubes on both sides it is wore out. No need to worry. Just cut part of the top out of two one gallon jugs and set them to catch the oil. Pore them back in the oil fill before you leave and hang on the hooks under the head ache rack for the next stop. Actually saw that! If they have been connected back to the pan it's a mask, walk.
That's from someone that kind of likes em! Some of them were hell when they were well. Jakes with a couple of shorties really turns heads. Not that impressive by today's standards and hard on fuel.

Lots of buses had the drain tubes hooked back into the pan.

55 gallon drum strapped to the top of the cab with an IV drip feed should do it.

Buddy of mine has a 75 Pete with a silver 92, was geared at 4.33 but he just changed to 3.73. Yes they like to scream. Only has 9k on a rebuild.

    Cabover Mike Thanks this.

That was an attempt to be EPA ( California compliant) Where I worked at they had us disconnect all of those and go old school. Said that was a Detroit campaign after loosing some engines, seems like I read it. As you know those are the air box drains which can contain a lot of combustion by products and fuel in a worn 2 cycle engine.
Just the best of my understanding and recall.

Parts are still available. More so near the coast where they are used in boats.
My take is Detroit had them pretty well worked out when they came out with the 92's. They were discontinued because they would not pass emissions. That is to say they were dependable and did not blow hardly any oil.
Some of them pulled really well but they like fuel. If you are running a lot of miles the fuel expense difference would go a long way towards a truck payment.
It is also hard to find anyone that knows how to work on them anymore.

I think some stage coaches used 8V92's, a lot of buses passed me. I think they were suppose to be like 430 hp, but a 425 Cat would leave it in the dust. I think, like most 2 strokes, they got lousy mileage.

spsauerland, BoxCarKidd and Mcast3092 Thank this.
