Have you ever had an accessory drive coupling, the "lovejoy" coupling continuously break? I know something else is wrong, but everything runs and sounds great. Put different (new) alternator on, worked good for 5 months, broke again. Any ideas?

Ha Ha Ha!! You must be one of those Cummins guys! I sense a little hostility! Been out-running those Cummins and Cats for YEARS with my"ring-ding" Detroits. Your milage estimates are way off and saying they're "worthless" just exemplifies you lack of knowledge about them. If you like your Scummins or Cat, that's fine, but spreading misinformation to people just asking legit questions is kinda lame. Also, if anyone has ANY experience with these motors, you'd know a properly assembled one will run with very little oil leakage. 42 years in the business and can't say enough about them. Most times it's just lack of knowledge about them and wanting to think they are professionals in every field.

Baloney sausage, pal, and I've run into a couple folks that just love their 2 cycle Detroits over the years, mostly because they are cheap to repair. That's fine, but everyone I drove, and I drove a few, were all worthless POS's, and I don't care what you say, a Cummins, Cat, or new Detroit, just left them in the dust. They fell out of favor for a reason. Common Detroit saying from the boss himself, "that's got a Detroit motor, better take some oil with you".
