There is a 2012 Cascadia with DD engine 650k miles for sale with coolant in the oil that I'm considering buying. What are the common problems on DD engines? If I buy this truck I expect best case scenario to do a valve job/head gasket, replace all 6 injectors + injector harnesses, fuel quantity valve and whatever else I might find. Are DD engines known to have cracked cylinder head or engine block?
6 cyl kits, all bottom bearings, all gaskets and o rings, 6 set of piton rings. new oil suction manifold, ... you can reuse the head, but I would suggest you to get reliabilt head from dealer because old one has 650k miles
you have coolant in the oil, because bottom o ring of liner is leaking. its a common problem of dd15.
Unless there almost giving this thing away I cant imagine you won't need to do a full rebuild on this engine. I would even look for a good replacement motor if the deal is right. You can get 2012 and later used engines for about 14k and up. lord knows how much money that ones going to cost to fully redo. But personally i would walk away from it.
Seller asking $15k it's a real clean truck with good tires, I'm thinking $10k As with any used truck one never knows if I do an inframe like mhym says the parts maybe around $5k not counting my labor and get perhaps another 500,000 miles out of it not that bad. This way I know the engine is OK, a used engine is unknown could be buying someone else's problem.
I had similar problem with my 2012 truck . I had leaking upper o rings of 3 and 4 liners. Detroit did my inframe under warranty because truck had 450k miles.. I was lucky coolant did not mix with oil. in this case crankshaft must be inspected. find a member 4vmach1 and ask him about repair. he is a detroit tech.
