I think you have a ddec 5 ecm.
Pictured is a DDEC VI (6) rpm.

@Oldironfan the issue is when we unplug the egr valve things running smooth and I can feel it pick up speed way faster.
Plug the egr valve back in and raising the rpm slowly past 900rpm makes it surge bad. Rpm jumps 200-300 up and down, but if I raise the rpm fast it does not do that.
We already checked pedal dead spot as well.Last edited: Aug 10, 2018

I would just unplug it.
Do the key cycle thing.
Like the turn off EGR for older Cummins cm871. -
