I had this with both piston kit. DDC went thru about 8 programs, 2 rebuilds and a reman to get rid of it. Intermittently happened about 1500rpm warm on mine. Plus ton of white smoke at cold start. Almost as bad as a juiced Big Cam. Was burning 4 gal oil in 10k.
They tried 15.5, and 16.6 pistons froml DDC, and McBee. Yes a DDC shop tried Interstae McBee piston kits in my engine. They even bought a second set to "inspect". Seems they have some programs with glitches and parts not up to spec since the engine is so old. The people that designed it are mostly gone. Tech support sucks from them. They hardly care about such a old platform. They buckled and to solve it, built new reman BK and swapped it for me. I could rattle on for hours about this. Had one factory program that made 48 psi of boost. Ran great, milage sucked. Never put that one on the dyno.spsauerland and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
I have a theory. Unproven but its my theory.
If your gonna run a factory program and factory power level. You want 16.5 kits.
If your running non oem program and power levels run the 15.5. And deal with the cold smoke.Brettj3876, swaan, Roberts450 and 3 others Thank this. -

7650 injectors 8309 cam are hotter than 5915 4292
-
Would you know how this compares on dyno ? 7650 Vs 5915 and 8309 vs 4292 ?
-
7650 are 9 hole others are 6 hole. The 7650 have a finer spray, and with the higher compression pistons are why they don’t have white smoke running a lonox program. The old ones get the white smoke after they’ve been reflashed with lonox during overhaul, as it’s required by law. I don’t think the kits are different. That’s the problem. The way to fix that is to use a kit for a BK engine. Pistons, cam, injectors are different. Probably be able to use original injectors and cam. Just have the higher compression pistons. I really don’t know. I’ve heard say the 6 hole injector has a better throttle response on acceleration. I’ve had both engines. First one rebuilt and reprogrammed with lonox. The difference if any was negligible. My BK does seem to pull hills better than the PK. The fuel economy isn’t as good. Burns more at idle especially.

Mine is a GK stock pistons 7650 injectors 8309 cam set at 550 hp lied diesel did the tune. pulls great 45 psi boost.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

Never on the dyno the program when i plug in says 550 hp probably have fuel and timing added. truck pulls extremely well.
