Have pre-egr S60 12.7 that appears to need a head gasket. I need to roughly what's involved in doing the work and if I need any special tools. Already have a good selection of tools such as 3/4 inch torque wrench, gasket scrapers, overhead hoist, plenty of large inch-size wrenches and sockets, etc. Just not sure what's necessary for the big diesels.
Some general direction for the critical steps like drive gears or doing the overhead once together. I'm sure 90% of this is common sense. Just need to find about potential pitfalls. Thanks in advance.

Ok, well the first thing you need is a service manual. If you plan to keep your truck for a while it will be the greatest tool in the shop! All of your questions will be answered there! Info on how to do a headgasket job is kinda a lot to ask for in a place like this.
Davidlee Thanks this. -
If you're ever in the Atlanta, GA area, let me know. I can give you info where you can get the whole thing done for about $1200.

Main special tool that you will need is the injector height tool. Long socket. New head bolts, and if you want check liner protrusion. Other than that nuthing major.
