Hey drivers, I am looking to possibly move my family by the end of the year to Texas. I visited DFW a few months ago and liked it but this virus ruined our plans of visiting Houston this summer.

I have 7 years experience with no tickets or at fault accidents. I've worked down south and I currently run the northeast including nyc. I have all my endorsements including twic. I currently pull dry van but I'm open to reefer and tanker.

My question is, if you had to choose one of these two cities to run local which would it be? I have two very young girls that I refuse to leave at home. I'd probably be OK with an overnighter but that's about it. Thanks, be safe!

Also, I'd like to avoid food service (been there done that) and not too big on LTL. Owner operator friendly companies are plus, when all this subsides I'd like to eventually have my own equipment.

I've worked local in both areas. And to me there is more bang for the buck in H-TOWN. There are several tanker companies and tanker pays more than general dryvan, reffer, & flatbed.

Before they economy started contracting all sorts of companies were hiring for local or regional. All of them aren't great but the DFW is more of a food storage and general freight type of area. They have alot of cold storage warehouses around there.

You cant go wrong with either place. As truck driver jobs are plentiful. However I dont see the economy getting back on track for a while. There are talks of a 2nd wave with the virus. So I would stick it out where you are now. It would be a shame to move to Texas then loose it all.

However along with no state income taxes the life is good here in Texas. And you have a choice of 3 beaches here locally. Cypress, Pearland, and Katy are the best suburbs to move to. But the morning and evening commutes are horrible. But here are a few companies to check out for local work in 2021.

    Heniff

    Highway Transport (1-3 nights out)

Praxair (driver facing cameras) but the pay is 1300-1800 p/wk take home. But might not get home everynight.

    R. B. Stewart (fuel haulers for buckeys, they are paid by the hr. 8 hr shifts)

Walmart Transportation ( sometimes if a new hire comes in at the right time you can land a day cab home every night position. Pay is ok but cell phone policy gets alot of ppl fired).

There are several more, but as I said alot of places wont be hiring for a while. Good luck in your search and move. I was able to gain a driving position before I moved here. Witch was alot better than coming to Houston then looking. However everyone was hiring back then. But there are very slim pickings now.

Thanks brother I appreciate the response. That's definitely in the back of my mind and unfortunately I just might have to stick it out here another year. Just trying to map it all out ahead of time.

Lived in Florida and definitely enjoyed the climate, no state income tax, and the beaches but of course it's a black hole for trucking. Texas really appeals to my wife and I because of its job market, suburbs, and just overall friendlier atmosphere.

Any word on Clark Freight or Jetco delivery?

My wife and I visited Vegas last year, we absolutely loved it out there and considered Henderson. It was so clean and the scenery was beautiful lol. My wife's career is corporate and technology oriented which is why Texas is so appealing to us.

Yeah, I love it here. I'm a transplant from Tennessee.
Is this anything like your wife does? Largest place I've seen in Las Vegas.

She will primarily be working in the legal department dealing with contracts, negotiations, IP, etc. Lots of companies moving their HQ'S from California to DFW and Austin. Houston has the energy companies which is huge of course. Plus the ocean wouldn't be too far away compared to Nevada lol
