Im in SE Tenn. and the recuiter that came to my school told us that the DG account paid roughly .34 cents per mile. One of my classmates (who lives in NW GA about 20 miles ways) got hired at werner, at .33 cents per mile.

So a recruiter called me and pre hire me but told me the rate was .21 cents per mile and if I do not have any accidents, it would be .26 cents per mile. When I asked her about the other rates, she couldn't give me an answer.

SOOO, is this typical practice at Werner?

    w4cdw,

I was recently told by a Werner recruiter that student OTR pay started at 26 CPM. Dollar General Dedicated started at 30 CPM. I spoke with two different recruiters and was told the same thing. One was over the phone, and the other was in class. I am also from the NW GA area. So to answer your question, it sounds like a typical practice!

So you do get any pay for unloading? How many DG stores are on each load or is it one truckload per store and then deadhead back to the plant to get another trailer.

Honestly, that recruiters from Werner's lied. Sorry, but it is the truth. If your lucky you start out after training at .26 per. Your doing good.
Justinkluczynski, if you go an average of 900. a week after only 6 months, I would really like to know who your FM is and or if your a team driver. Only time I have heard anyone make that much a week with Werner in that short of time is if they are in a team.
If you have anything go against your D/L or DAC your FM will try to pawn you off as well.

Keep in mind, it only takes 4 points and they take your license away. With a class A License remember, what would cost 1 point to a class C driver cost you 1 1/2 points.

Keep an eye on your DAC as well. Do not let your FM tell you they will handle it. Such as a DOT over weight so on. You can always check your DAC 1 time a year free. After that there is a fee.
Most all, but not all trucking firms do take advantage of first year drivers. Once you pass that first year without any tickets or reports you can go just about anywhere.
Hope this helps. Good luck. :)

I was based out of oaklahoma exit 40 my fleet manager was dewane . werner had there own fms there. I would do 5 to 6 trls a week by my self, i will never do team. Yes the money was hard work but worth every penny. The one thing tho every dg store was hard as hell to back into. I got paid like 300 a week for the 2 months i was in training being a new driver. Once i got my rig i was making .30 cents a mile, plus payment for every stop and dunnage pay.

yes Arial they do start new drivers at .26 per mile and give you 1500 to 2000 miles a week for just otr.

I did DG out of Ardmore, Ok. Usually deadhead back to Ardmore with backhauls to pick up about something less than half the time. Some stores were easy to get into, some a huge headache. Some stores were easy to put freight off into, some WAY hard. The worst one of all...the first ever DG store in Ada, OK. Had to push that crap up a steep ramp. Eh..it's truck driving, pure and simple. If you want easy money or lots of it, you're in the wrong line of work brother.

No you will get more than that remember you get all kinds of raises but you make your money with the combination of unload stop and mileage its Werner highest paid account so don't look at milage pay but unlaod and stop pay as well
