When I am out on the road I usually walk around the area I park in for about and hour when I get out of the truck, other truckers look at you like your an alien when you are walking around, it is a huge problem in trucking, most people are so sedinate when they are in the truck all day it becomes a real problem in this industry.

Yeah, but driving underpowered overloaded trucks down 2 lanes with bias ply tires and wedge brakes with a bag of jelly beans for lunch was totally okay for us,,,look,,,by nature, a trucking job has everything going agin you, and all the diets and walking isn't going to cure it, it's still a sedentary job, with poor sleep and eating habits, almost as if to thumb its nose at the healthcare industry. You talk to most trucks drivers, the reason they do/did that, is because they didn't want to swing an axe in 100 heat. I'll admit, even for me, it's a lazy persons job, for the most part. I never had to worry about exercise, as most jobs, I unloaded my own trailer, EVERYDAY, but I see the marshmallow drivers at the cashier with an arm full of crap, probably the majority of drivers, we aren't football players, you know. I heard diabetes skips a generation ( lookout kids), and I just found out, the BP med I've been on for 20 years, Amlodipine, has been associated with positive outlook and being given to depression patients,,,,nothing yet,,

With my job I'm only driving for an hour and a half on average before I'm at a stop and out of the truck. About 350 miles a day. In and out of the cab probably a dozen times a day. I do laps inside the stores sometimes when they're unloading the truck. There's plenty of opportunities for me to walk and get the blood flowing and I take full advantage of it. My weight is down and blood work has been coming back as normal now for the first time in several years. Sitting in that truck seat all day doing 600-700 miles day after day being sedentary is taking years off of drivers' lives. Not worth it.

This is one aspect of the industry that kind of irritates me. To each his own is my philosophy. However, I have found similar experiences to what you describe. It’s almost like other drivers get pissed off when they see someone who’s driven 600+ miles and they can still get out and go for a walk. It’s like you’re not supposed to be able to do that you need to just go get a large pizza and crawl in your bunk and go to sleep. No thank you. That is a literal recipe for an early death. And I refuse to accept that because of the job that I do. I also drag along some portable workout gear that I will get out of the truck and do some weightlifting, etc. And I’ve caught some comments for that, especially. Sorry man if you wanna die at 45 or 50 that’s your business but I still got a few years I wanna live. That’s why I do it. Also cooking my own food and eating healthy out on the road. If you don’t do these things you are guaranteed a miserable early death. Sorry, but it’s true. And no job is worth that.

    For diabetes

    Glucose
    Fasting insulin
    Hemoglobin A1c

    For heart

    Homocysteine
    C-Reactive Protein
    Apolipoprotein B
    NMR LipoProfile
    Vitamin D
    Magnesium

All of these can be tested through an inexpensive blood draw, but relatively few Americans are willing to do it.
The solvency of our country depends on finding a way to get people to understand this, including Miss Elephant Ankles riding around in her complimentary cart at Walmart.

Life style is major cause of high blood pressure…you are what you eat…many people opt to go on drugs to maintain blood pressure when simply modifying their diet will lower blood pressure so they can continue to shovel garbage junk food down their gullets
