This is nothing to mess with. I did, for years, trying to get by with Tums, Rolaids, etc. I finally tried Prilosec and couldn't believe the relief I got. That got me to go to the doctor for a more complete diagnosis. I now avoid carbonated beverages, don't eat before bed, don't overeat, and take Nexium or an equivalent. An endoscopy showed I had progressed to Barrett's, so it could have gotten a whole lot worse if I hadn't done something about it. Three years later... no problem!

If you have it, get it checked!

AHMEN bro. Get it checked out ASAP.I am a firm believer in Prilosec OTC
It is some what spendy but I think I was probably spending 18 20 bucks every 14 days or so on Rolaids, Tums and Mylox. I still would wake up at night reaching for those chalky ### tablets. I did the same as you and finally went to my DR. and was given the third degree exam and then a 4th degree lecture on proper diet , QUIT SMOKING and what not to drink. As you said , No carbonated, caffinated or acidic beverages for awhile.
I think the Doc. said something about alcohol but he didn't say anything about Amber Bock LOL. It was pretty hard to give up the caffeine at first but what a difference it makes. I have stuck it out with just water for awhile now and no problems with the burn at all. I will have to think about the Quit Smoking part for now.:biggrin_25515:

I may have acid reflux disease. I truly don't know. I take an over the couter generic Rantadine and it makes a huge differnce! Smaller meals too. Avoid acidy foods if you can. I have decreased my coffee intake.

I used to suffer horrible heartburn, before the days of "acid reflux" and the purple pill. I am one to avoid drugs at all costs and about 13 years ago I started on a high quality dietary suplement that has done wonders for me. Now I never ever need antacids. I used to always keep some with me ALWAYS. Find a good dietary suplement that works for you and also take a good high quality digestive enzyme every time you eat and you should see a great improvement with acid reflux (heartburn). I know most people won't spend the money on suplements and they take drugs because their insurance won't pay for the suplements but they will pay for the drugs even though all drugs have side effects and a quality suplement will give a person positive effects. I am 56 and don't take any drugs, over the counter or prescription (ok I will take an occational asprin) because my level of health is much better by spending about $50 to $75 a month on a high quality suplement.
