Ordinarily I figure out what is causing the current problem on the truck by the simple solution that the bad part must be the most expensive part on the truck that hasn't been replaced in the last six months. You'd be surprised how often this method seems to work for me. :biggrin_25512:

This time though I think I could use some help. I have many tiny little specks of what looks like oil on the tractor that look like they must have shot out the pipes and then rained downward. Don't really see any smoke while moving. Everything else seems to be ok.

According to my usual method of diagnosing the problem it should be the transmission as that is the most expensive thing not recently replaced. Unless it is the engine itself of course. But I can't see the tranny raining oil down on me.

Anyone have any ideas? I would appreciate the help.

There are covers over the pipes. But I'm not sure how solidly they cover them so there are probably gaps. And I have been in some terrible rain storms recently -- every day for six days. I keep hearing there's a drought but you couldn't prove it by my routes recently.

Possible pictures of the specks? Or more details on where they are? As for now, put five bottles of stop leak in it with your oil.

Look in turbo at waste gate. Do you see oil dripping or appears to be spraying out? If so, oil line gasket is bad causing droplets of oil to mix with exhaust. $2 part to fix. ISX engines do it a lot

Rain falling into your stacks while parked with the engine off will be blown back out when you start up as black soot that you will see as spots on any flat painted surface. And it can come from the truck parked beside you too.

Thanks guys! I'll check out the turbo and hope it was just the rain.
