Did 2 years of LTL just hurt my ability to go back OTR?

I've been LTL for the last to years after coming off of OTR. I just talked to a recruiter for the company I was hoping to get on with to go back OTR. He said their policy is to have 12 months consecutive OTR between 2014 and 2015. I've been LTL since 2013 so basically I am not qualified to work for them.

I didn't think to ask while I had him on the phone. I had just pulled up to an LTL delivery and the customer was waiting. What is it exactly that makes me unqualified to go back OTR? I got to thinking about it. The only thing I am missing is that I don't sleep in the truck and I have only driven in about 4 states for the last two years.

On the plus side, experience wise, I have driven multiple equipment set-ups including medium duty tractors, single and tandem axle daycabs, and regular old sleeper cab tractors. I've pulled 28 ft pups, 35 ft, 45 ft, 48 ft and 53 ft vans. I've pulled double with ever type of tractor we have including sleeper trucks. I've driven multiple engine and transmission setups. Transmissions include 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13 speeds. All this is just while LTL. It does not include what I drove OTR.

So after thinking about all this, how the hell does LTL disqualify me for ANY OTR job?

    Thoughts?

    Rocks Thanks this.

As far as backing, I probably hit more docks in a single day than most OTR guys hit in a week or two.

I have a buddy who pulls a 53 reefer local in New York and Long island. He ran into the same thing! LOL It is wayyy easier driving on interstate than driving in towns all day with your rig, you ltl guys should be held in higher regard in my opinion.

I remember LTL being held in a higher regard back in the day but sadly it doesn't seem that way today. LTL are the ####### redheaded stepchildren of trucking...

just above food service and beer distributor drivers. :)

The policies some companies have is ridiculous and then they wonder why they can't find drivers. As I see it L.B you're just as qualified as someone that's been doing OTR for 20 yrs.Hang in there you'll find something and it won't take long either.

I hope so. This was just the first place that called me back so now I'm a little paranoid.

Try companies that don't advertise, there should be a few in your area. How big is this company that won't hire you back?
