You would have done just as poorly, if not worse, with Conway. Their drivers are choking right now. No miles. Sitting and sitting. Unfortunately, most large companies are all the same. There is a reason most new drivers dont remain in this industry for very long. They realize that they are getting screwed and they cut their losses and move on to something hopefully better. Friend, you will realize very soon that getting into the over the road trucking industry was a big mistake. It doesnt matter how good you think you are. This industry pays poverty wages to not just newbies but to all its' drivers. Example; Starting pay at Conway Truckload, 30 cents a mile. After a year, 36 cents a mile. To cap out at, I believe, 42 cents a mile. Do the math. Regardless of what anybody tells you, miles at Conway average about 2000 miles a week. Poverty wages. Regardless of 30 cents a mile or 42 cents a mile. And you are just now finding out how difficult the work and lifestyle really are. For just a few hundred bucks a week. Sometimes even less. Maybe in a year or so, you can share your stories with us and help others from making the same mistake that you (and myself) have made by investing so much to receive so little. And, by the way, to all future responses to this post that will no doubt try to suggest the contrary to what I have written (mostly by paid, professional bloggers); Here's the real test... To all those that are considering this business as a career, physically go to any local truck stop (Pilot, TA, Loves, Etc.) and actually speak with the drivers. Ask them what they are paid per mile, how many miles a week, how much do they pay for health insurance, how much time with the company. After speaking with several drivers or more, perhaps one might begin to reconsider getting into this industry.Last edited: Oct 9, 2012

Ya I'm to sure what you expected to get paid but that's not to bad comming in for your first yr. You can't listen to all that recruiter crap they tell you in orientation, once you get out on the road all that #### goes out the door.
It looks as you'll be making 38-40 grand right. Thats not to bad for anybody starting out in any industry.
These guys you see working at the. Department stores like Target and Walmart probably get paid minumum wage.
Try living off 250.00 ~350.00 gross.Last edited: Oct 9, 2012

I wouldn't dream of attempting to argue with you. It's obvious you are smarter than the rest of us and have managed to conclusively figure out the industry in less than a year, albeit from your narrow perspective.
I would argue, however, with your assertion that anyone satisfied and/or successful in this profession must be paid, professional bloggers.123456, formertaxidriver, airforcetoo and 1 other person Thank this. -
Where do I sign up? That's better than Dollar General.

I've spoken with a couple of drivers who are getting $1000 a week after taxes, with a few yr experience. As one driver told me its sometimes about living in the right place.
Boricua, the most important thing is too keep ure license clean. See it as an investment.
