I knew it wasn't gonna be easy, if it was there would be no shortage of drivers. Having one of my WORST days ever, I'm sure the oppressive heat and humidity here in Ohio didnt help. Day 1 of the parallel park I did GREAT, today I totally sucked. I got so angry at myself that I could even do the simple straight line back to pre-position the rig for the manuver, and that was one of the first manuvers we mastered. I finally said "###### it" and got outta the rig grabbed some cold water and a cigarette and rethought my choice at this career.

The Instructor said, "Everybody goes through this." Is this true? Did anyone else go through this?

Yup. Went through it during school, and it really sucks when you're off you're game at a customer or truck stop and everyone is staring at you.

Don't worry yourself over it too much. Back in school, I nailed the parallel park one day and it totally went out the window the next. It takes some practice to get it right... And even then you're still gonna screw it up occasionally :)

some days ,I can't even back into an easy dock!

yesterday totally missed and had to pull out , reposition.

took me 15 minutes and usually is a back in and 1 pull up to straighten out. lol

Just do your best and when you have these days get out calm your nerves and try again. I mess up more simple backing than I did the harder ones. Just practise and try to remain cool headed

You're in school to learn. You learn from your failure. Anger will only lengthen your learning process. We've all been there though. I've put it in some docks that would make you tear up your permit right now, but they are rare. Heck some days I can't even back into a parking space without doing a couple pull-ups. In this industry, only the rookies will judge you for making a pull-up or such. The veterans judge you on whether you hit anything because tomorrow, nobody will remember you doing 10 pull-ups to get in that dock. They will remember you taking out the side of a trailer, and your DAC report will tell everyone too.

You did good getting out of the truck. When you are angry you don't learn anything. When you get frustrated get out and calm down. Once you get it down and you are on the road if you start to get an A bad position the best thing you can do s pull up and start over. setting up for the back is the biggest part about backing when you get angry when you pull up get out and goal biggest part of goaling is to get to walk around the truck and calm down and see where you need to go.

I agree. We just had a 30 year driver back into a parked car while leaving a customer site. When it does not feel right, get out and look. I have been doing this 28 years, and I still occasionally stop the back up process, and get out and assess the situation.

if your thinking of quitting because you having a bad day parking, you might as well quit right now. When I first started I use to hate backing up, I felt like all the other drivers were looking at me and laughing, and after while you will see that's not the case, some drivers will even get out to help.

I've had days that when I pulled up to my door I think to myself there is no way this going to fit, next thing you know it goes in with the first try. Then I've had doors where there is no one around and I have had to pull up 5 different times. Everyone has a bad day... don't give up

There's going to be days where you can't back up to save your life & they'll be days where you'll be able to whip it right in...

It's just nature of the job...just relax...the way I look at...as long as you don't hit anything, you'll be fine...ignore the cb Rambos who want to laugh and all that...because I'm near certain that they have there days too so it's hypocritical for them to make fun of anyone backing.
