The instructor is right. You're new to the game and you don't know the truck. You get to rolling, put a couple hundred thousand miles on a rig, set the mirrors where you want them and drive that truck day in and day out, you will have less and less of those days. Don't beat yourself up. Confidence, amigo. Every great champion had to get off the floor to win a fight.

I agree get out take a break and then look at the angle you need to be at and start again. Yesterday I got yelled at by another driver that I was going to slow in a construction zone. At least I was being safe. All I could think was that double trailer hazmat load he had must have been so hot he could not take time to.slow.down for the guys that were trying to fix the road for him to drive on.
But never give up if this is.something you really want to do because this is only the first of many times u will be upset. You and I and many others have a long way to go and lot of dues.to pay, but you will make it if you really want it, I know I do.Drac1985 Thanks this. -
Don't feel so bad. We all have days like you are having. I may have it worse sometimes for right now I don't have an assigned truck. I slip seat from a Freightliner to a Peterbilt and have to take my time backing anywhere because of the difference in the trucks. Some days your spot on, others you need a couple of pull ups to get it right. No one is judging you on how many times you have to pull up to get in. Its all about safety and GOAL. It may take you 20 minutes to get in the hole but once your in and you didn't hit anything, its all good. There will also be drivers that will help you and others that will criticize you for taking too long. Always, always, always take your time and don't listen to the drivers yankin your chain!
Drac1985, superpet39 and davetiow Thank this. -
I've had a couple days where I couldn't put a truck in an EMPTY DOCK (NO TRAILERS in it lol) , I've even had a few days I couldn't parallel park my car without pulling forward a million times........
it happens to everyone, don't worry (which I know is hard to do) ......
I'll say this: I WISH I knew about TTR when I had those days- so I wouldn't feel like I was the only idiot that couldn't back up a truck....... I just kept to myself and stressed the he ll out and eventually got it right.......
you'll be just fine! Good luck -
I've messed up some backing in my day, but never got so frustrated i had to get out of the truck. What are you going to do in the real world? Are you gonna leave your truck half backed in, in the middle of a lot?
Just keep your cool, calm down. Think about what you need to do an don't just make gut moves that don't work.Drac1985 Thanks this. -

I will only add this from my personal experience: There will be days (or nights) when you pull up to a customer and there will be 15 or more docks completely open and the customer says "take any 1 you want". Inevitably, it is this situation that will give you fits. You pick out a dock to hit and then won't be able to find "that one" in your mirrors and when you do, you end up pulling up so many times the dock manager wonders what it taking you so long.
Many times, we get complacent on the easy ones, loose concentration, and look bad. In contrast, many times you will find the difficult docks to hit will be easier than you thought because you will concentrate all of your attention on getting the trailer in the hole without hitting anything.Drac1985 Thanks this. -
When I went for my CDL the second time back in January 2012 I lucked out. The DMV examiner was training so the only skills tests I had to do was straight line and offset backing. I do understand your frustration though. I had a hell of a time learning to parallel. Almost felt cheated on test day. All that time practicing and I didn't even get to do it. Back in 96 when I first got licensed I didn't have to perform any skills tests. Pretrip and road test is all I had to do. To this day I have never had to parallel park.
To touch on with what Richter said, it irritates me when trucks go slower than posted speed limit. The Chowchilla scale on 99 north of Fresno has a 20mph speed limit for empties. I don't think I've ever broke 10mph through it. Step on it, Drivers!Drac1985 Thanks this. -
I did as I.was told by the instructor. The speed was 35 on that road. I may be new but I do know.driving my car I adjust the speed to the conditions of the road or the surroundings. And this is also.what my instructor said.
