Like someone said early"Kid in a candy store" didn't get nervous at all--just glad to finally not have the ol man next to me #####in! LOL--
but some things never change--and accordin to him almost 40 years later--I'm still a kid hangin on to the steering wheel--with power steering and one gear stick--kids--sheesh!
    LMAO

My first trip back on the road after the loss of my husband was OK. But when I got to the receiver and saw where I had to back into the only thing that crossed my mind was "Holy Mother of God, I am so screwed." But I did do it (obviously) and haven't had any more butterfly moments since then. Give it time.

Yes I had butterflies and the death grip that I had to peel my fingers off the steering wheel each day. It lasted about 6 months and comes back every winter when I hear that S word Or that I word. Getting butterflies just thinking about it.

My first company didn't have any driver/trainer time, after 10days of orientation right out of CDL school they gave you a truck, some keys and said don't hit anything, good luck...Nervous may not be the right word to describe how that felt pulling out of there the first time...Maybe more confusion than anything else as I struggled to reconcile who was crazier, me for doing this or the company for letting me try!...

Not really nervous because prior to truck driving I was a security guard at a DC.
I'd talk to truckers for an hour sometimes, just to get an idea of what their day was like.

The company I chose only had a 10 day orientation, then you're on your own.
Won't lie I was a bit hesitant after hearing that, but applied anyway.
First run I guess I got lucky because I had to drive 4 states over with a co worker, to pick up my truck.
He taught me a lot in those few days and since then life as a professional driver has been much easier.

I've been solo for about 6 weeks and have gotten on a first name basis with the people in the accident department at my company.

I remember my first Watkins dispatch. Load of furniture out of Salt Lake City terminal coming back to Helena...an easy one. It was a pretty exciting rush pulling out into traffic and onto I-15 with a loaded trailer for the first time with nobody sitting there in the passenger seat. Kinda like the first time I pulled out the driveway by myself when I was 16. It was time to be a big boy :)
