    ok, lets think this way.

So after truck will be intriduced Cat will start developing engine for EPA2012 ore for Euro-6 and later when kid's desearses of new for Cat Class8 truck will be over they'll introduce highway engine for this truck. And it is not all. Cat got experience building construction equipment and seems to me they'll make good axes, good supention and they can use european brake system that can make truck really good on market, but seems to me it will be expensive bramd.

IMO, Cummins will try to buld truck soon too.

Guy at the Cat booth at Con Expo said the trans and rear ends will be Eaton with the exception of the auto-shift option which will then be a Cat product.

Cat web site says Meritor, Dana, FABCO and Eaton rears, but the CAT trans. is an Automatic like an Alisson that is going to seal the deal, other makes are going to have to spec. a Allision to compare apples to apples CAT may offer its in house trans. cheaper this is not a truck aimed at linehaul apps. its got a 12" frame, only suspensions listed are Hendricksons and Chalmers

I saw it at the expo, got mixed feelings for it. First off I'll say that it makes any Mack look like a flat out beautiful truck... I'll stick with the W900, T800, 379/359 any day of the week. The cab's interior, for being a bare bones work truck, actually was pretty well layed out I thought, comfortable, etc. I thought it was interesting that their 'heavy haul' truck only had a 6 speed automatic, when there are now 18 speed automatics out there. I would think that especially in heavy hauling applications, let alone dump / vocational work, that with only 6 to choose from, you would constantly be in between gears. They only put a C-13 in that rig too, I'd expect to see the C-15 in a heavy spec'd rig. If I was ever in the market for a new truck (Dbout I'd want to get into anything newer than a 07) the truck would be truly something to consider. I still like the KW / Pete setup more mostly for looks. I'd say that the 660 would tie with the Macks as far as looks go. I had seen the pictures of it, seen it in person, and was not a fan of it, but hopped in the cab and was pretty impressed. Still a lot to learn on it before I can form my true opinion.

I think its more Navistar than Cat at the moment but that should change over time, I personally think its #### ugly, maybe that will change too. I agree that they are definately playing on Cat's brand name but that will only go so far if the truck is a POS.

I really like how it looks inside & out in the pdf file linked. Not a fan of them buying credits instead of meeting compliance.

Would like to see them make a otr truck that meets compliance via scr technology to lower the egr rates. Last I read, CAT/Navistar were the only ones sticking with amped up egr???

Though honestly, it doesn't matter as new trucks are nowhere in my near future.;)

The c11 is a 10.5l just like the maxcrap from international with heavy egr. If they didn't do anything with the crap for interiors like on the 4000-8600 international trucks they can keep it. We have a 4100 and 7600? and the doors don't seal, the air vents last about a year and all the electronics (gauges, a/c controls, etc) have some sort of glitch. These are the only NEW truck I have driven that you can see daylight between the door and the cab at 65 mpg with no head wind. If there is a crosswind and rain your getting a bath. Our companie is done with International.

I seen 3 CAT trucks on lowboys being hauled to MATS this week on I-40....they looked good, but all were daycabs and I'm sure they will do well on the vocational market.

    Don't waste your time.

1st: The engines used are essentially International engines.

2nd: The dash and interior are much to cluttered and look to luxurious. They try to be different, and just make things luxury like and over electronic. Too many switches spread out.

3rd: It looks different, I wont say it looks good or bad, I don't know what to say about it. As someone said, it looks like International rebadged it with the word Caterpillar.

Conclusion: International and CAT are in a partnership. CAT is borrowing International engines and chassis, while International is benefiting from the use of CAT's name. Basically, they are benefiting each other with market share. Even if CAT can steal customers from KW/Pete and International, its financially benefiting International. CAT would not have the resources to do this without International. If you think you're buying a CAT Product, you're buying an International product. Don't bother wasting your time on these products, I predict an epic failure. I'm not fan of Pete or KW, but if I want a garbage truck, a dump truck or anything else, I'll go with a Freightliner, Mack or Paccar(Pete/KW) product first.

That CAT CX-31 is a horrid transmission. It is a power shift transmission much like an Allison automatic. It is not an auto-shift, it is a true automatic with torque converter. An automatic puts out torque much differently than an autoshift. Even having 6 gears, its an automatic. I've driven this transmission in a bus with a C13 engine and a CAT CX31 transmission. The transmission is naturally loud, it whines, it does not shift smooth. There was nothing wrong with it, that's just how it worked. The Allison automatics are much smoother and reliable. Do not waste your time on this.:biggrin_25513:
