So i got pulled in on Monday at the scales around 7:45A.M. because my drives were 4100lbs over, i call my dispatcher to tell him what had happened and he said he would call the customer and send a transloading company to fix the load....
When i got the load on Friday to pick up Monday i saw the weight it was 43900, i told the dispatcher i need to weigh it to make sure all the axles were legal, he said no because the customer won't pay so if you get pulled in I'll charge the customer i said ok fine whatever.
Well the whole day goes by and nothing, keep in mind I've been calling every hour to see what's going on and get nothing but excuses, finally around 4P.M. i call again and they told me that they were sending another driver with a forklift, pallet jack and a ramp.
7P.M. Driver arrives we fix the load and drive back to yard around 9P.M.
I call the dispatcher and tell him i will bill him tomorrow, he said ok.
I billed him for 13.25 hours @ $40/hr = $530
The load paid $370 + FSC so that was billed twice since i took the load back to the yard.
370x2=$740+&148 for FSC
I also charged a $200 lumper fee.
The total came out to $1618
My question is.... am i overcharging or undercharging for this problem that i warned the dispatcher might happen.

$40/hour is too cheap, IMO. $70/hour should be the minimum charge for a truck and driver that were ordered and are sitting due to customer / broker errors.
Container Hauler Thanks this. -
I would of refused to take the load unless I could scale it

I am afraid what you bill, and what you get will be two different amounts. No body will be willing to pay that much, even though it might be worth it to you.A lot depends on how far you had pulled the trailer from the port, how many miles you actually had in the load.If it were a regular shipper who loads me regularly, I would charge 1/2 rate to return the load,fuel charge only on % of miles actually driven, give them coupla hours free, and 200 bucks lumper is alot.. 40 bucks an hour is OK by me, was not burning any fuel just setting there, so nearly all 40 an hour is profit.I do admire you for billing at that rate, but doubt you get it all. Let us know how it turns out, and good luck.

$10 for a scale ticket. regardless what the customer pays for or not.
now you have a citation. correct???
and like others said. what you bill and what you get are 2 different numbers. -

No i don't have a citation, i don't know if they have this in other states but here in Cali the CHP has a form that's called "Request for owners responsibility" so the ticket goes to the company I'm leased to not me.
