Did I mess up my slack adjusters?

I forgot to mention taking zerk fitting out, and squeezing the balloon? it should come right out. I got sidetracked by Rich Truckdrivers with fancy tools. Lol

My snap on guy will be so glad to hear from me. It’s been months since I bought anything. I wonder if his business survived without my $100 a month.

So new guy question. I assumed auto slacks adjusted themselves.
I check them when I pretrip. I had a DOT officer show me how they measure, but I’ve never felt through the peddle or by sight a need to adjust them. Is there a link or video I should review?

 

They "should". They won't if they run out of grease.

Usually a problem on trailers.

 

They have little plastic markers you clip on your rods. Push brake pedal. Apply park brake. Then you can go measure them.

As far as when to adjust them, when you hear that little voice.

If I'm heavy, or I've been heavy for like 3 trips, and been on the brakes a lot, I'll adjust them.

We're talking like 5 minutes.

You don't need to measure them to adjust them.

 

That's the other thing. Trailers are whacked. I've picked them up that were so far out, they wouldn't even lock up to slide the tandems.

 

These are the measuring indicators.

You'll never need these if you adjust every couple weeks, or if you start to see a gap between drum and pad.
