Ok, got an update gents. Just going into my second week with my new company. Same one just down the road that said "Wait a few months, call us back." :)
Now I'm hauling auto freight in a day cab GUARANTEED home every day, medical is less than 1/2 the cost of the previous goat humpers.... I mean previous company, pay looks like its gonna be about as good and the office people are NICE.
Now the rest of the story. I filed for unemployment, got denied. Asked for reconsideration, denied again. Went for an appeal this past Tuesday. Telephone conference of me, my attorney, company attorney, ####### boss, and judge. IMHO, my former boss came across as the bumbling clueless idiot he's thought to be. Couldn't answer quite a few questions, kept telling the judge he had to defer to HR. Lol!
What "disturbed" them was two boxes of ammo I bought at a store I delivered to and a pair of fixed blade knives; one a AF issue survival knife with a 5" blade, the other a pos Rambo style I bought somewhere for giggles and stashed in the bag for lack of anywhere else to put it.
Anyway, I made the case that these (especially the AF knife) were carried as rescue tools in case I ever needed to cut myself out or break a window to get out. Company policy reads quote "no carrying of weapons or knives prohibited by federal, state, or local law". Well, these knives weren't illegal under any of those, so maybe they need to rewrite their policy? Hmmmmm?
My attorney hammered them on that point and also the fact that the policy they quoted to fire me was dated 2010 BUUUT the handbook I signed for was back in 2005 and my boss couldn't confirm on the spot that it said the same thing back then.
Bottom line, I've talked to a few people with more knowledge on this than me and none of them think they made a very good case.(Yeah, I know it's what the judge thinks that counts). If I get my back unemployment great, if not at least I took my best shot and got a laugh out of watching the boss squirm.

Late to the party, so if someone has already said this, sorry. But I'd rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6.

Kudos on being prepared for the unknown.

something like this went down at a nuclear power station a driver was off the day before and another driver took his truck out he got in and didn't look around just drove when he got there he did all the normal routines with checking in and when he entered the building the guards put him at gun point he sat their for a few hours interrogating him and tearing apart the truck turns out he had a red water gun underneath the seat

One day in 1981 I took a transparent blue water gun to school because I wanted to play with it during recess.

It caused quite the uproar and I got suspended for it. Being 6 years old at the time I couldn't grasp the reason for the chaos.

Even now it makes no sense.

Wow. We used to play cops and robbers with water guns when I was in elementary school. No one ever suspended us or sent us to the principal's office (for the water guns anyways, spent a lot of time there for fighting lol). This was in like '96 or '97 too.

@MACK E-6 , your a punk. Lol. Back in 85 I got a trip to the assistant principals office (junior - HS) for an electric water gun (looked like a mac 10 - still have it). No time off, just a warning.

I'm currently hauling gas in the Louisville area. There is one of those signs on the front gate stipulating 'no firearms or weapons allowed....' blah, blah, blah 'vehicle subject to search...'

That is crazy! Back in 94-95, my buddy and I used to bring a realistic looking air pistol to middle school all of the time! And we got caught with it when we were moving it from backpack to backpack... and all they did was confiscate the bb gun and give it to my parents. No suspension or expulsion or anything...
