Did my first “Blind Load” today.

Years ago used to pick up cheese in SD, go to WI, get new BOL and head to receiver with Wisconsin cheese.

 

One company in particular makes it in CA(640's) and "sells" it to a company here. They let it age, slice, pack and send it back to the first company in CA. The original company sell's as WI cheese.

 

Know that company well. They also sent from the N.E. to WI, new BOL and out to CA and other points.

 

Company in Baltimore received the same chemical from DuPont and Allied.

DuPont plant maintenance shutdown and we loaded blind from Allied with strict instructions to say it came from DuPont.

Grizzled unloader at the consignee pulls a sample and holds it up to the light and said;

'So, you loaded this at Allied, didn't you?"

 

I've see "blind loads" a lot hauling fuel but they're a little different. Say a Chevron station orders gas and the Chevron rack is down or there isn't any product. The tanker goes to Shell or another refiner, loads, and delivers to the Chevron station. The paperwork says Chevron/Shell exchange and the bean counters in the office keep track of what went where.
There are a couple of refineries in the Bay Area that specialize in exchange loads. You load there and hang whatever company product tag on the load that the orders call for. They claim that whatever they sell meets the oil company's specs but it would be hard to prove if they didn't.

 

As long as the rack injects the Chevron additive package, it's Chevron branded gasoline, regardless of who made the RBOB or operates the rack.

 

Very true. We stay out of that particular responsibility though. Our drivers load it, transport it, and unload it. Period.
LOL...the oil company can throw a little extra qualifying paperwork on the load and claim anything they want to. We take it on faith because our drivers are drivers and not chemists.

 

happened al the time...floating tank top tip and leak water in the regular, cross over to the neighboring terminal [usually a few on each pipeline terminal and get what you need. Stuck pig somewhere and you ae taking papers from you usual terminal to the next one up the pipe for a day too...

 

You're right it happens a lot. A few years back I was unloading in a Chevron station when a guy walked up and told me how good his car ran on Chevron and other gas just didn't compare.
I was unloading house brand gas from an independent refinery in the Bay Area. Maybe it had Chevron additives and maybe it didn't...that ain't in my wheelhouse... but I complimented the guy on his choice of gas and didn't tell him what was really going on.

I can't remember how many different stations I delivered to from Marathon in Martinez.

In my curtain van days I did a lot of wine loads that would go to a wholesaler for a paperwork exchange and then on to the final destination. Generally paid well for the extra stop IIRC
