I kid you not.
There are some who get 10 mpg consistently.
Dispatchers swear these people are running in the northeast as well.
On that I call...
BS!
LOL!
Did Prime get slowed down to double nickels?

Be careful about posting things that make this much sense in a fuel mileage thread. Some folks have it drilled in their heads that you absolutely can’t make money in this business driving anywhere within 10 mph of the speed limit, despite the obvious safety issues of driving that slow.BoostedTeg, Opendeck, Gearjammin' Penguin and 1 other person Thank this.

I don't think you guys are hearing me.
In order to make money you have to drive a load.
Company drivers who do not make the required mpg do not get loads.
They get to finish off the "slower" driver's load by sitting at the dock with it while the slower driver gets another load to run.
You can't drive fast to get empty sooner to get another load because driving fast leads to you getting parked at the dock while the slow driver is it on a load holding up traffic. -
The only way I would accept a fuel bonus program is if I was involved in the specs of the truck and could hand pick my loads. How do these companies keep the system fair and equitable.
As far as 10.75 mpg it;s easy to show that on paper. just need some cash and math to figure out the break even point. Use your imagination for other methods LOL -
Never seen that happen, if so you're getting rooked.
If your argument is that a slower rate of speed burns less fuel then I don't think anyone will disagree.
Options, even in this day and age, are what has given operators and drivers the freedom of choice to operate as they see fit so long as it doesn't infringe on others. -
Sit at the dock for 10 hrs at $25 per hr then hammer down for 600 miles at 50 cpm and repeat.

Let's make it straight.. my rears 2.64 if go down to 65 truck won't take it next hill have to downshift. If I down shift I loose momentum and waste fuell. Did try to run at 65 than I'm loosing time and another day. So how can you gain if you loosing time? How can you win against clock on loosing couple loads a month and when it's windy and going on lower gear it's same mpg on a long run
-
It’s obvious most here have never had to haul a load of cattle, strawberries or other time sensitive produce or God forbid had to put that load of chicken into the wind!!
It should be illegal for a slow ### truck to have a shiny hiny!! -
I am in about the same situation as you and would agree with your statement most of the time. Fuel is cheap when compared to my extra revenue of just one extra load a week. However last week I wanted to take it easy and thought I would try 64 instead of 70 or so. I ran the same type load on the same roads of a roughly 2200 mile round. It was a much easier trip, not having to pass very often and got nearly 7/10 a mile per gallon better. I am aerodynamically challenged by owning a Car Carrier so average is 5 mpg and awesome is 6mpg. My rig does like running fast better, but some days I don’t mind just easing on down the road. I did have the same 3 or 4 trucks pass me over a 2 day time period from Indiana to Texas. Just food for thought as slowing down doesn’t always work but if you don’t need to run 700 plus a day it does work.truadvocate Thanks this.

I have a 2:64 with an 18 speed. My optimum power/fuel mileage band is at 62-64 in 16. When I run 70 or better 17 is perfect and rarely use 18. If you have a 10 speed then you may not have much choice.truadvocate Thanks this.
