Almost everyone wants to kick the tires now, because people are so quick to get an attorney when a truck is involved in any type of accident.

About the only time you're going to get your own physical is when you're an O/O.

Im getting hired right now. I had to do a physical on my own to change my cdl from intrastate to interstate. They want me to get a new physical when i come in. I currently have a 1 year card.

Get it to a full year, it won't cost you anything and you already paid for it.

It would be a no-brainer to get it for a full year, if there were no costs involved.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. More input is always welcome.

Just be aware that b.p. meds can take a few weeks to moderate your b.p. Even then, there's no guarantee your rate will be under the DOT threshold when you retest.

If your weight and diet are contributing to your high b.p., you'd do well to start working on that now as well.

Wait, you paid for it, if it is at a clinic they will issue you a temp (3 month) and then issue the full year after that if they are satisfied, they don't charge. I've gone through this a dozen times and never had a charge outside the initial exam cost.

It is interesting I just saw this because I now remember speaking to a friend of mine that just lowered his BP by simply taking Hydrochlorothiazide 25MG every afternoon. Yes it is a fluid pill. I took this pill for a while before I retired in a combo with Lisinopril. All it does is help get the sodium OUT of your body. My friend told me he dropped his top number from 160 avg to 125 and his bottom number from 95 to 70 just by taking that med. Most all of us know the primary reason for the high BPs is the crap truckers eat along with little or no exercise. This can help. However I have to say this. Lose weight get plenty of exercise and start eating better foods. Remember there is a trucker shortage, your company needs your warm body in that seat!:p

All companies are different. I've never had a new company not accept my current card. But I've also been told by some companies. They will only accept my current card if there is over a year left before it expires. Back in the 80's and early 90's companies had there on person come do physicals during orientation. So answer to your question is some will some wont. So before you spend time and money, ask your prospective company what their policy is. (*** However if I had a 3 month card. And new my doctor was going to extend it. I spend the time and money at my doctor. Who knows what the future holds**)
