get louder microphone. That way when you spend the money you'll have something to show for it.

Before you start adjusting the modulation pot, I would suggest using a black marker pen, and make a mark on the edge of the pot. Then if you feel you messed it up, you can set the pot fairly close to where the factory had it.

I've been pretty fortunate as a company driver just about all the CB radios I've ever had installed in a truck could reach 4 blocks on a good day. Lmfao what a bunch of crap.
Remember back when I was a kid and Ocala Florida I used to wash trucks and I had a guy there that sold me a CB he owned the local CB store and I end up getting a 300 watt linear and dual antennas which he tuned or married whatever you call it that was an awesome radio it was just an old 23 channel but I have never seen a radio better to this day.

Most of the Cobra 29 radios I have owned came stock with 4 watt carrier and pep wattage of 12 to 14 which is 75 to 87.5 % modulation, yes vr4 can be turned up to 100% modulation without any damage to radio and it will sound good as long as modulation limiter is left intact and coils arent spread. The last 29 I bought the pep wattage was only 8 and vr4 was only half way so it did need to be adjusted but the radios that were stock at 85 % sounded just as good as 100% with 16 pep watts.

I also own a Bearcat 880 that also came stock with 4 watt carrier and 8 watt pep and it too has a modulation adjustment ( believe its also vr4) that needed to be adjusted and now it swings to 16 watts at 100% , some of the earlier 880's didnt have a modulation pot and are really anemic, so I would suggest getting a new radio checked ( most shops offer free bench check) or purchase a good meter and check it yourself .

Yes. The instructions will be a nice place to start if you don't have any experience peaking and tuning a CB radio. There, you can learn about its features, prerequisites, and considerations for radio optimization.

Leave it alone if you never worked on radios or have the right stuff to tune with..Dont care what radio but gettin in there and turnin stuff up or down can easily make it worse as it could better....
Go on the bowl and listen to most of those self tuned radios....Hell most of the techs are just as bad..
