i ran the numbers on the last job i did with my belly dump before the weekend sure almost looked like otr numbers...lol

    hourly rate

59 interstate miles each way 50% loaded to 79-81k other 50% empty 118mi round trips

    590 total miles driven.

    $1365 revenue

came out to $2.31 per mile driven or $4.62 per loaded mile

    86.76 gall of fuel burned or 6.8mpg @ 4.09 per gallon $354.93

not really a typical run for me my mpg is normally not as good but my revenue per mi is normally higher. i was the only truck running that day so no wait at the pit, pull in loaded out and back on the road in about 10 mins pit was right off the highway as well as the delivery location.

the last job i did before that felt much less like otr

    tonnage rate

4 mile haul 8 mile round trips
20 miles to and from the job
    $75 per load
    10 loads
didn't get a fuel millage number on that job as i didn't fuel before or after that job. but based off similar short hauls iv done before and fuel millage fell more in the 4mpg range. but with only 100 total miles driven probably only burned 20 sum odd gallons of fuel. and completed the job in about half a day.

any how as i was running the numbers i found a striking resemblance to OTR numbers you see guys post so i thought i might share.

    both examples were direct customers.

What's the average hourly pay per hour for a belly dump up there?

Ezrider did you get your truck and trailer going or are you doing it part time? From the looks of your post that is not bad at all. Just curious about how truck and trailer are running for you.

average hourly rate for belly dumps around here typically 100-115 per hr to the truck

truck and trailer are working very well. i had one minor issue with the truck. one of the heater hoses rubbed a whole threw and started spewing antifreeze was able to patch that up quickly and get back on the road. I think i need to replace the muffler on the truck. on the outside visually it looks fine but if you are jake braking down long grade with a full load on and the window down your ears will be ringing by the time you get to the bottom.

all in all i cant complain about the truck and certainly not the trailer.

I'm not quite full time on it yet, but will be very soon. I have been able to get enough direct customers to keep the truck in the black lately but they have all been small jobs. get a few days off go haul dirt jump back in the pete and run take a couple more days off go haul more dirt. everything is starting to ramp up now for dirt hauling and im in talks with several larger company's about leasing on as a independent o/o. sometime in the next couple weeks i should have a company picked and all paperwork done and switch over to full time. The iv made the company im currently working for well aware of the situation and have there full support. they have already told me im welcome back at any time after i leave.

Good to know things are going well and you will be going full time. It is good that you told the company you work for what is going on. In case things don't work out you will have a place to go to. Glad it is working out.

the owners of the company iv been driving for are great people. although there not perfect really couldn't ask for better people to work for. So i defiantly made sure i wasn't burning any bridges with them. When i bought the truck the original plan was to lease it on to them and put a hired driver in it (there policy states that a company driver cannot lease a truck to them without remaining employed as a company driver) but things were a bit rocky last year work wise and never ended up doing it. Plus the guy that I trusted to run my truck had a change of heart about doing it. bought the belly dump trailer last fall cause i got a good deal on it. By the time you run the numbers it really makes no sense to put a hired driver in a truck while you drive someone elses. so besides the fact that they don't do belly dump work the only good option is to leave the current company and go run my truck. by doing that ill also pass the time threshold that will allow me to lease onto the company i currently work for as a o/o should belly dumping not work out well.

there has been some bumps in the road along the way and expect there to be more to come.

The idea of belly dumping is very pleasing to me for many reasons so i hope i can get on with a company that will treat me as well. normally you only work daylight hours (no more 3-4am shifts) your not working much when the weather is miserable out. get most weekends off. Have the possibility of doing work closer to home. ect. so i hope it all works out well. by the time everything finishes up for the year around nov. if i can have cleared close to what i made working 12 months out of the year at the very good paying company driver job ill be more than happy to continue belly dumping. and should it not work out i can always sell the trailer or rent it out to someone else and return to my current company as aether a o/o or company driver.

It is nice to have a fall back option witch is why i wanted to make sure i burn no bridges esp with how well they have treated me over the last few years iv been with them.
