How very true that is.Companies wait till you get to the terminal to fire drivers because of the abandonment thing.Just my opinion but I think had he not drove it like that 500 miles maybe a simple flush of the tank woud do.Does warrantee cover this if its drivers error?

6g's because somebody can't read. I don't think Werner is going to keep that individual around for long.

The mistake itself could possibly be forgivable. Driving 500 miles and waiting till the next day to notify the company "because they will find out anyway". Not so much

I absolutely agree with you, and that is one scenario that has been going through my mind.

    1. When in doubt, ASK QUESTIONS. This would have been avoided if you had asked another driver, the gas bar attendant or someone at your company. Lesson (hopefully) learned.

    2. Don't (and I can't stress this enough) DRIVE 500 #$^$king miles AFTER realizing your error. That is unfathomable to me. No offence but I think you knew you made the mistake and thought you could get away with it. Now you've forced your employer to foot an extremely expensive bill which is unfair to them, even if they are a mega carrier. $6000 is $6000.

    3. If they didn't train you on using DEF as you say, they should be held partly responsible. But again, you are the captain. You're in charge of the truck. Treat it as your own. Give it back the same way you found it. You take responsibility for that when they hand you the keys. This was an avoidable situation.

    4. With all that said, I'm sure you'll learn your lesson on this. I hope for your sake they won't terminate your employment and you find yourself with a job when this is all said and done. I don't know if I'd be laughing about it so soon, especially with a $6k bill as evidence. Be more mindful of these things in the future, and when in doubt, ASK.

I doubt its per manufacturer. It depends on the shop. Some will let you send used parts and install and just charge labor, others wont. When When the transmission went out in the truck I drove at my job before this one, my boss tried to arrange to ship a transmission from El Paso to the Freightliner shop in Chandler, AZ and they refused, wanted $15,000 plus labor for a new transmission. He eventually had the truck transported back to El Paso. On the other hand the Freightliner shop in Abilene, TX replaced the turbo with one my boss shipped overnight.

$6k to flush the def tank, lines, and perhaps replace the injector? Sounds like the dealer is trying to take Werner for a ride.

Ok folks, this horse has been beat to death over and over. The guy knew before he posted that he messed up. Then he's had 16 pages of people telling him how he messed up, plus I'm sure he'll catch hell from werner. He sounds intelligent enough to learn from his mistake without being told the same thing, over and over, by folks who like kickin people when they are down... Just sayin..
