Edit to add: 2008 Western Star 14L Detroit

I got a call from a driver today that he was driving down the road and the engine kinda sputtered and lost power...he looked at gauges and saw the oil pressure had dropped. So he went to pull over and it stalled.
I got out to where he was and checked the dipstick and it was pretty high (prob 4 inches over the full line), was thin, black and smelled like diesel. No bubbles.
I left to grab another truck for trailer repower and my driver started the engine just to get it out from under the trailer and it pushed probably a gallon or two of oil/diesel out from somewhere.
I didn't get to look while it was running...but when the tow truck guy was winching it onto the deck...I peeked under and it looked wettest at bottom-front of the engine. It also looked like it might have come from the blow-by tube.
*About 2 months ago I had a new Detroit head installed because it was pressuring up as well as a new set of injectors and harness a month ago because of a miss.
It was running perfect after this and sounded like new. The oil level was normal everyday and no more coolant loss since.
Im guessing one of the new injectors were bad? Or could it be an injector cup in the new head?

Isn't the fuel pump on those connected into the front gear train? Could be a possibility as well.

UV dye in the fuel and running it with the valve cover off might show you something. Definitely recommend fresh oil before starting it again.

Pretty well guaranteed an injector solenoid leaking. I put 6 Reliabilt injectors in my other 60 last May. Within 3 months all 6 had failed, all leaking fuel where the solenoid connects to the body.

Your 14L has different injectors, but that is where I would start. Pressurize with air with the return blocked, or use dye with a blacklight.

Yeah I believe the fuel pump is part of the gears. I had it towed to the shop that did my head/injectors so I'll def get them to look at that right away.

My series 60 solenoid leaked on one injector. Put 10 gallons of fuel into the oil, in about 2 hrs. running. No missing it with the valve cover off.

Did yours leak out of the engine onto the ground at all? Mine did but I wasn't sure where it came from

Mine leaked into the oil. Squirting out into the valve cover, draining into the pan. Front main seal seeped a lot of the thinned oil/diesel.

Ok thanks. Mine does look like it leaked from the front of the engine. Was hard to tell because it was on the cross member area and also sprayed (from engine fan probably) and dripped down from around the bottom of the compressor and the spin on fuel filter areas

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Lucky it stalled major damage can occur including running away if turbo seal starts leaking the thin fuel oil mix . Hopefully you have some warranty left.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.
