Any ideas on a fair per hour rate for a diesel mechanic? Have a guy we use regularly and want to decide on a fair rate per hour to pay.

    To the mechanic?

Or including everything ( shop, compressor, rags, insurance etc)?

We have a guy that works at the Pete dealer for long time. He comes to out shop on the side and charges $30 hr, $100 min (cash). Dose good work to but you have to wait on his schedule. He doesn’t do tires oil changes or brakes.

He will do overheads, injectors, roll in bearings or clutch jobs...... that kinda stuff.

Shop labor rates in your area are what's fair.

If it's your shop and is all he brings is his tools 30 is good, I highly doubt he makes that at the dealer but maybe he does.

My mechanic charges me per job for instance. He just replaced the kingpins on my truck $1000.00 including parts don't know if that's fair or a bargain...

Simple enough. And if he can fix it in one try ask for a business card and give him a tip.

Not that hard to do a front alignment on mine i keep it slightly towed in....
I would trust my mechanic over any dealership out there.....

Yes, I bring my truck to his place that he rents from someone I know.

He has all his own tools & equipment.
