    Hi,

I see alot of diesle pick up trucks hauling cars and other stuff. How could I get into that business? I figure it would be cheaper than buying a truck and trailer.

    Thanks

You can also watch shipping wars (forgot what channel they are on) or go to Uship.com and look at their load boards (which is on the same said show). I don't know how much experience you have but I would truck for at least 1-3 years to get your feet wet while also talking with some of those same 'pickup' people to get a better understanding of their life and business. Good luck!

uship is terrible because there is no accountablility for the person requesting hauling. Half the time it winds up being someone looking at something on ebay who is just curious what they could get it hauled for. You would be far better off using the trucking load boards and looking for partials for stepdeck and flat and calling and seeing if they can put it on a hotshot.

Diesel pickups aren't well suited for auto hauling . Most 3 car loads will put you well over 26,000 lbs. which is really above the designed capacity of a 1 ton. 1 tons are a prime target for inspections at scales .
A 1 ton is much better suited for oilfield hotshot work .

I know plenty of people with 3 car trailers who do just fine. As long as your not over on any of your axles your good to go. Just make sure you got plenty of brakes.
