If he is being trained by the school bus company, I'm sure they will see to it he has his passenger/school bus endorsement. Just a class B commercial is not a passenger endorsement. (Unless things have changed a whole lot.)
There are a few class A drivers that go ahead and get the passenger endorsements along with all the rest of the endorsements.
Personally, I'd rather have a root canal with no Novocaine, than drive a school bus!

    School Buses are special.

Halidol shots followed by Versed memory killing shots backed by Fentenyal plus Thoriizane so you don't get to chase and murder the brats inside the bus. =).... Smile.

There are two separate endorsements: 1 for vehicles like Greyhound, or large vans that carry passengers, and some chauffered vehicles. (Or municipal buses.) The school bus is for just that - those yellow buses that haul kids back and forth to school. Hauling a busload of kids takes a special sort of person. A class B doesn't necessarily convey the endorsement for passenger hauling.

We used to clamor and beg our Miss Bea who was like 90 and new dentures... to bounce us in the back over a hump across york road each afternoon on the way home from school. Almost a life time later I tried to bounce my 48 and caught air on that one just one time. Police did not take kindly to that little story and told me to stay out which is understandable considering the area it was what I had to go through to set it up.

I cannot imagine the heavy hand of authority ready to fire her today if she was still alive bouncing us off the ceiling.

Passenger = transit or coach bus
School bus = big yellow thing full of lovely children that become spawns of satan the moment they board.

That's enough to drive a poor bus driver to drink right there!

In TN, you have to have the "S" Endorsement to drive a school bus hauling kids. The "P" is for school busses that dont haul kids(?), Greyhound or company vehicles hauling more than 16 people including the driver. You may have to have both the P/S Endorsements for hauling school kids?- TN doesnt really clarify that other than to say a mechanic who works on school buses and dont haul kids must have a Class B License with a P Endorsement. The Commercial Classes are A,B and C, according to the weight of the vehicle. D is a 4 wheeler drivers license in TN.

In Texas endorsements are separate, I have pass and school bus on mine. school bus endorsement written test is specific to school bus laws, and the driving test had to be done in a school bus. They verify your distance from curb stops, make sure you open the entry door at rail crossings, correct distances to engage your yellow and red lights, specific order of mirror checks at load/unload etc. Kids get ran over every year by school buses, they really push safety for that reason.
