Difference between Pratical and HHG payscales

    i was otr but when i had to go back to the yard for all the safty classes or the 3 month inspections thats when youd get a ld from the yard to othe side of ft worth:biggrin_25510: and get that 1 mile crap.....

    I can see why you'd be pissed! We're an OTR company, but we have local guys who are paid a flat rate in areas that have enough of that kind of work for it to be justified.

    Sorry pony but that is just wrong. HHG pays from city limit to city limit which is also pretty much by zip code also. On a cross country run they may pay you by as much as 90 miles less than you drive even when you use their routing. Practical miles is generally within just a few miles of actually miles. What you are referring to on the odometer is called hub miles and very few companies pay by that due to it can be so easily abused. If you don't think that getting paid for less miles matters or that it doesn't add up then how about I give you my address and you just send me all the pay for those extra miles you don't think matter.

    Iornpony, I just don't get your point. You think CPM is important but not how many miles that you drive are actually paid? I have made the run from SC to Oregon using the HHG scale. It paid 90 miles less than I drove using their routing. That's one run with a loss of 3.6% miles. That is equal to a loss of 3.6 CPM. If you average 120,000 miles per year that is $4320/yr. NOW do you think is doesn't matter? It wouldn't matter if they told you they'd pay you a dollar a mile but only pay for 10 miles from Florida to New York I don't think you'd take that run.

    Actually, I'm not missing the point.

    I'd like a payraise too. In this economy, your 10% increase in miles paid will be matched by a 10% or better decrease in total runs assigned. It's the economy! Until freight rates rebound, no one will be getting a pay raise. In addition, if you think you're dispatcher/driver manager/FM is a neanderthal jerk now, just wait until you get to practical miles. You take a 1/4 mile detour for a pee break, and I guarantee you'll be hearing about it in a negative manner.

    Wait until I get to practical miles and you GUARANTEE me? I have also worked for a company that paid on practical miles. They flat out told me they DIDN'T CARE if I made a out of route detour of up to 50 miles to visit family or something as long as I got the load there on time. I did that a couple of times to visit my brother and they didn't say ANYTHING, positive or negative. It was a non-issue. I was always on time picking up my loads, delivering them, and I worked with my DM if he needed me to help out by swapping loads or something to get loads where they needed to be. Being a team player and doing my job was all that mattered. Now granted they would have said something if I went a really long ways out of route. But this same company had deadheaded me by almost 1000 miles before to get me out of a dead area and back into the freight lanes so I could get a load.

    Nice company. Can't say I could really see the Swifts, CREs, etc. of this world being that nice to a driver - since they already treat their employees like slaves.

    No kidding!! I ran flatbed for Swift also right after I got out of school. With them I had to fight to get a load, would then run and deliver on time, then had to fight to get paid for everything on the trip. I photographed everything that went into the trippak and saved it on my laptop one trip per file folder. That way when they invariably told me "we didn't get that receipt" I'd just say "hold on one second" , and shoot them an e-mail with the receipt in question as an attachment. After I did that a few times they realized I was keeping very close watch and had documentation backed up they suddenly quit "losing" my receipts.

    Never had that problem with Prime... only time was a foul-up on a PO number - fix? Resubmit on a new PO, and got paid in my next settlement. It really helps that we scan our trips since we get feedback within a few days from payroll if there is a problem. Settlements are available via email or online within 3 days of the cutoff date for the week.

    HHG was invented to rip off truck drivers. Simple as that. Shut-up and take it or find a new gig.
