Yep we always called it the sunshine tax. I lived there for many years. Only moved back to the midwest because after divorce my ex moved the kids up here. I still miss it, even though you have to pay the Sunshine tax.

My company has positions in Florida and they are about the lowest pay we have.

Lol I get it. I’ve been here my whole life and don’t plan on going anywhere! I love it. It is expensive. And yea seems trucking ain’t big here. BUT local jobs pay extremely well.

For instance our local routes here pay$25.10 hour. In Florida $23.50.
The $1.60 difference is the Sunshine "tax" for having almost daily sunshine.

Why not be a mover? That's what I did. With a class A licence, you have a lot of pull with getting jobs. They need you. When you apply and say that you can only really do 1 overnight trip a week, that's the agreement you'll get hired into. Pay depends on the company but it's usually either % of the cost of the move, or hourly and paid for packing and unpacking. Lots of people also tip.

Carrying the furniture is hard at first but then you get used to it. You also get to have the fun of the "no trucks" signs really just being a suggestion. Backing a 53 foot trailer through a tight townhouse development, steering it around the cars that are parked on the curb and managing to the the doors of the trailer lined up perfectly with the front door of the move is the greatest feeling in the world as a driver.

Backing a 53 is no fun vs a closed circle of homes to a particular driveway blind side.

We have had the pleasure of backing into some of these on loads paid for by collective homeowners for fundraising such as oranges.

I wont say that I was defeated trying, but safety is number one at 2 am in the morning surrounded by 30 kids waiting to move oranges. You can get close but no closer.
