Until november i drove a older lorry with a normal paper disk tachograph.
now i have a newer truck with the new digital siemens vdo tachograph.
Well i got stopped today for the first time and i had the pleasure of finding out what it means having as many as 72 violations recorded permanently.
1500 euros fine, all because of many small violation like speeding too much downill or driving 20 minutes over the 4 and a half hours and twice i drove 10 or 11 hours in a day.
of course my company pays but i also got many points out of my licence.
This is gonna be a big problem in the future!!!

If I remember the data is only stored on your card for 28 days (from the number 1 slot) when vosa/the police/the office put their cards into slot 2 they can see a lot further back into the trucks life.
You can print off during the day ( but only when youre stopped) If you press the button which is usually to the far right on the unit it will display your accumulated driving time even while your driving.
Sorry to be harsh here but speeding and driving over your hours isnt the fault of the digitacho.
Ive been operating a digitacho for two years and find it a #### sight easier than the analogue paper. No writing or no storage, just slip the card into your wallet and dont forget to download it as often as you can, it overwrites every 28th driving period. -
If it was for me i would drive 9 hours and stop 11. Insthead of the way we are forced to do.Buckaneer Thanks this. -
My licence is mine not the companies. They go bust or just sack you how are you going to get another job with all the points ?
I know what you mean about the hours being the wrong way around Ive been day jobbing an hour or so from home of late for a company and they put you on a 15 hour day and schedule a 9hr break before the next days start. By the time Ive driven the hour home and back Ive had 7 hours to myself and you dont go straight to bed when you walk through the door do you ?
Keep doing the Euromillions !! -
Just out of curiosity what are the HOS (Hours of Service) over there?
-
I can give you the important bits as its controlled by European Law now its quite involved.
We can drive for 10 hours three times a week with nine being the standard driving hours, max duty 15 hours per day three times a week.
No more than 56 hrs driving in a week or 90 hours driving in a fortnight
Max 4.5 hrs continuous driving then 45 min break
We have to average no more than 48 hours duty time over a 17 week period under the European Working time directive which effects almost every worker in Europe and isnt solely about driving.
Time off after six shifts is 45 hours, can be reduced to 24 hrs but within 3 weeks you must pay back those 12 hrs. Daily rest is 11 hours which you can reduce to 9 hrs three times a week
We have EU rules, GB rules for local (specific) driving and those in non EU countries operate another system called AETR.
Here are the rules Theres other links from here that explain specificsLast edited: Feb 2, 2010
