Back some 20+ years ago when the states started actually enforcing the Federal Bridge Laws, we had one 38' MC-330 bottle. I got kicked to the scale coming into Cheyenne, and he was coming out the door with a tape as I came around the truck. Since we were loaded to gross, I knew what was coming, and the ticket typing commenced.
He proceeds to tell us we need to get legal before he'll let us go, and that we needed to get another tanker there to transfer into. This is the Cheyenne POE, and the wind was howling straight towards town. We were loaded with mercaptan (used to odorize natural gas,) and tried to explain that we really didn't want to do anything up there unless he didn't mind town getting evacuated over the gas leak calls that were coming the instant we started to transfer into a tank. Took a call from the office to convince them we weren't lying. Which, of course we were, sort of; we did odor free deliveries all the time, but one drop would have caused havoc if it happened.
They finally agreed to let us turn around and go back to Colorado, where we pushed enough product into a propane tank to get legal. What a way to waste half a day!![]()
