When working directly with shippers, are you usually getting dedicated lanes, or will the shipper be typically posting spot loads they need filled? Also how many shippers do the mega carriers typically work directly with? Thanks

It's whatever they want covered. No you won't find dedicated lanes tell them your limits. Me I say I only run 300 miles from here in any direction.
And shippers love mega carriers because they can get shipments moved for slave wages of 45 cents per mile and pocket thousands

I have to ask, why are you asking people who are single truck owners and don't deal with this stuff?

    roshea and KB3MMX Thank this.

I made the assumption that even single truck owners try to work with direct shippers even if to a minimal extent

    KB3MMX Thanks this.

no that's not true, a lot of people don't deal directly for a number of reasons, one is they could be leased to a carrier, another is that they get loads off a load board and travel and a third is that they just deal with brokers.
