Ok so you was there when it was 80k gross no matter what and the rate is still the same as then?

How long ago was it that they raised the weight?

Typical. You post what you see as the truth yet when called on it you have no facts. Again all you know for sure is it pays an extra $ 54 to you.

All I can tell you is what I know as the "truth". How does it affect the rates of others in the industry I do not know, I have enough to keep track of my own business. I would suggest that someone in one of the other branches of transportation would have to answer for them selves. I answered the questions you posed.

I know I should be a marter and turn down the loads with the extra money, and I suppose you would. We have other loads that are similar they would not enlighten you anymore.

And I thank you for acknowledging that I post the truth. And the information I posted are the facts, you ask for my tare, I gave it to you. Look the point here is to assist each other. Maybe your used to the correct answer being the one whom shouted loudest, but generally this forum runs on cooperation. Don't know and don't care why you have an axe to grind. Grown up.

If you have a question ask it. otherwise put your head back where it was no one likes the smell but you.

The max legal gross without permits is still 80 as far as I know. Our trains run under permits different than my truck.
The rates in our industry do not follow the loaded weight but how busy we are, so up until about a year ago the rates were increasing, the last year the have been on a decline, as has building. When building boom's our rates climb. I don't know when they raised the max weight, I know we have permits in several western states to go to the max on the axles as the axle out exceeds legal gross.

Powder Joints, You only answered part of the questions. You don't know extra fuel costs, extra equ. costs, wear n tear, tires, ect. You don't know this because your not paying the bills. Yea it pays $32 a ton. Why do you think it would only pay $32 ton if the legal limit was 80k? I posted that I know what happened to freight rates when the western states went to 105,500. Do you? The only thing that smells is when someone posts what they THINK is true with out knowing all the facts. You have proved you don't know what your talking about other than some loads pay you an extra $54.

Actually I keep track of all the expense related to the truck I drive and have in this truck for 379,000 miles. Fuel, tires, repairs, routine maintenance, too make sure there is nothing more I can do as a driver to operate this equipment more efficiently. My fuel mileage drops from 6.25 to about 5.50, theres no way to tell on the tires, I would have to haul the load exclusively to tell, I see no significant wear on the tires. I also see not difference on the maintenance cost of the tractor. The main difference would be the cost of the trip permit, and the fuel.

I do know that if the boss was not making money on the load it would not be inside the trailer.

What I should be concerned with as a company driver is, if increase the length of time involved, the labor, and if it pays me for my extra time and effort. And it does.

Anyhow say what you will, I provide the information that I know of in as true of format as I can. SO may take issue, but that is there problem not mine. Have a good day.

I get where your coming from as a company driver: You get payed by the ton. That in no way reflects what the rate would be if the max. gross was 80k.

I do know the bid process in bulk. All the loads are bid at 27 tons minimum, and then it depends on how much a customer orders and the size of there silos.

So when our salesman bids on your plant he will bid, say 26.00 per ton@ 27 tons. When you order things come into play like where we load and deliver, and how much at what intervals you load.

SO if you order a deliver@ 7:30 am of 27 tons and a second at 8:30 of the same. Your ordering from a nevada plant to a nevada or utah plant your most likely going to get a single load in a train with both orders in it. Is all varies depending on the customer. But with us the rate is based on a 27 ton min., so if you order 24 tons, we will deliver 24 tons of product but you would be charged for transportation based on 27. Hope this helps.
