Also, another thing. Make sure that he replaces the coolant thermostat when he is finished cleaning out the coolant system with the dish soap. That is the only problem we had that I forgot to mention. Rush didn't replace the thermostat and we had to go back in and replace that because the oil in the coolant had gummed it up and it wasn't functioning properly.

It's pretty common for gasoline engines also especially if some idiot tried to mix coolants and it turned into a sludgy mess.

dawn is the best cascade was good before the changed the ingredients of it. I mix a cup to every 5 gal. of water. make sure you use warm water with a warm engine! run on high idle for 20 to 30 minutes flush and repeat until it looks clear. I also pull the heater core hoses and flush as well. also drain the block and flush. you wont get it all out but what little that is left wont do no harm. if it was ran for a long time with oil in the system you will have to inspect all coolant hoses for deteritation. oil will break down the rubber in the hoses. you can tell if the hoses sweat oil through them.
SAR, goin2fast10 and PeteyFixAll Thank this. -
superhauler makes a very good point about inspecting all hoses!
this is also true if you've had an oil,or fuel leak of any kind and oil has been on any coolant lines.
Oil will make coolant lines soft and spongey, feels kinda like slimy foam rubber eventually. then they start to swell until pop, coolant everywhere!!
Sometimes it takes a long time to show itself so keep an eye on them. -
Blew an oil cooler on my 6.0 Ford diesel (yeah I know, never heard of that happening) and Dawn with distilled water was the exact method recommended by every 6.0 expert in the country. Did a couple rounds of it, flushed several times then back with red antifreeze/distilled water and never had another problem (with the cooling system anyway).

Do you have your heater hoses open yet?
If so have him check the heater hoses and your tranny cooling lines... -
For mineral deposits Fleet Guard makes a product called restore. This works well. Also they have restore + it has an acid base that really cleans a cooling system up.
For oil though dawn will do it better than anything else I have triedKB3MMX Thanks this. -
This should tell you something what do they use to clean up Wildlife after an oil spill anyplace in the world Dawn Dish Soap. Why it is so gentle for the animals it gets the oil off them but does not harm them. It is the ONLY dish soap I use at my house at all. The blue bottle of wonder as my wife calls it as it can clean up even after my daughters Experiments in science of cooking.
Kev's Sunshine and drdesl Thank this. -
Welp, got the first dose out of the way. Took her out for a drive and when I got back I drained some vile-looking, greenish-black crap out of her. I filled her back up with water and put another dose of Dawn in and idled her for about fifteen minutes to burp her. I'm going to let her sit overnight then take her out for a drive again in the morning, then see what comes out of her belly the second time.
The mechanic who did the job did not swap the hoses out. I assume he wanted the thing cleaned out first, but when I asked him about it, he acted like it wasn't something he planned on doing. I ran it past the boss, who OK'ed it and called him back to tell him he's getting her back sometime Monday or Tuesday.
