If I had 4 on a road test, two are going to fail because one insists on backing (Showboating) at full speed and the other does not listen to instructions from tester. Poof. Gone.
When a company stuffs a orientation with 50 people, they can choose 20 and toss the rest. -
Not much, if any. This is what they think of their drivers and potential drivers. They wait to see if you show up to orientation first. Many folks just don't show up for their orientation. In other words they will inconvenience the hell out of you, but unless they are forced to make a few phone calls, they won't bother to.

Watkins does actually do most of the background checks before they send you a bus ticket. They do a drug test and company physical when you get there. If you can't pass your gone. And Watkins also only takes 6-8 at a time to orientation. At least in conover it's that way.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Does it hurt you if you accepted a position with a companies orientation and then later before you leave tell them that you will not be able to attend the orientation?
-
No. The industry, especially OTR is a drivers market these days. Trucking used to frown on job hoppers & no shows but now some even tell drivers to show up in another companies rig & just move your stuff to theirs. You at least told them you weren't coming. Many don't even do that.
Best however to get a packet from the HR dept on each company you are interested in. Websites & recruiters lie. The more you know the less surprised you will be in orientation. -
Only a complete loser could get kicked out of trucking school. Its a 6 week course FFS! A stoned monkey could complete it with flying colours.
