another thought. If I just come off a full 10 hour break then get dispatched 20 miles to drop a trailer, then get told to take another 10 hour break..
first thing I am gonna do is laugh at them. then say I'm gonna find a hotel with a bar attached and YOU can call me in the morning.

As I am still a student and my first post I'm trying to learn as much as possible and have learned a lot on here. my question is other than refusing the load I am wondering how much pressure was used to take the load. what would be a recourse for the driver and are there any things in place to change this on a company level legally? If this might or does happen to a new driver, he might not say no I have to sleep and keeps on driving and have fallen asleep. This must of happened before as he had a camera rolling. Would he be over his hos as he drove 20 miles after his 10 and would have started his 14 hos

First of all You are the captain of your ship. Act like a captain. Respectfully stand your ground from the start. If they push you ONCE it'll never stop. If it seems stupid or ridiculous Call them on it. Its your job your but and your jail time. They will push but they wont stand up for you when something goes wrong. They will throw you under the bus

ive been delivering furniture house to house..direct from manufacturer lately and ive had times where they didnt get the truck loaded until 5pm and they expected me to be in Detroit or Deleware or somewhere else beyond expectation to start a day full of deliveries by 8 am..id pull over when i felt like it and sleep..and just be late..and if i couldnt fit a delivery in my 14/11 then so be it....i will not die/kill someone else/lose my license over somebodys furnitureand somebody elses money..havent got fired yet.matter of fact .these dumbledorfs had me in ATL the last ice storm in a truck that was registered out of my class..they try to tell me its ok..lol..i got a guy i kno that got a ticket for thats same truck 2 weeks prior to me being sent away in it like nothing was wrong...i brought the #### thing back..then it got stuck in my yard..they tried to tell me i was responsible for the tow bill..i laughed in their faces...havent paid a tow bill or got fired..they love to back drivers into corners but dont like getting backed into corners themselves..its not about us drivers tho..is about money

This type of thing happens Alot. Why??? Cause drivers are letting the company and dispatchers do it to them. Stand your ground if you feel unsafe leave it at that and hang up. No sense in going back and forth. They cannot fire you for being safe and responsible point blank.

can a dispatcher fire you? In the video, the dispatcher said " you will get a service failure and your time at K&B is over". Who is the one that can pull the plug on you?

I'm not easily angered. But the blatant disrespect for safety and the driver on part of that dispatcher is just terrible. How does he sleep at night? Probably pretty well because no ones telling him to get 1 hour of sleep after staying awake for 17. It's a good thing you got that on camera. I'd send that in to the highest level of management you have access to. People like that are the reason new drivers push themselves too hard and end up in a ditch, rollover, or killing a minivan with a family in it. Dramatic bs? Not if it's his family that is killed by a tired driver. Idiot.

I hope the driver gets fired. So he can sue for wrongful dismissal and go laughing all the way to the bank with 5 million dollars. Man, his lawyer would have a field day.

Classic case of Bullying. I am right there with the driver in that a 20 hr break is about the worst thing for me to try to do. When I wake from a full rest, I can't sleep again for atleast the next 12 hrs.

    moneyburner and mje Thank this.
