Simple solution to those idiots who park in the way: Knock on the door and tell 'em "You've got 2 choices. 1) Move the truck to an out-of-the-way spot and restart your break, or 2) I perform a level 1 inspection, then have your truck towed at your expense to an out-of-the-way parking spot and restart your break." Of course the driver's going to cry a river about the HOS and how "unfair" it is that he should have to move...but maybe next time he won't decide to park blocking the scale.

If you're in a legal parking space, you shouldn't be bothered. Get "creative" and you should expect to be asked to move.

Yes I do avoid weigh stations. And rest areas, when possible.

From what I read parking is scarce I'd take what I can get.

My thinking on a non EPA truck is not to flaunt the HOS rules, but for the reliability. And the issues have not gone away, I saw a CM-2350 out of a 2016 International sitting on a wood crate going back to Cummins. It was an anchor looking for a ship. These motors are still failing. Paccar is still having crank shaft failures, many failing around 400,000 miles. Detroit has other issues with the electronics and melting pistons. They all have issues. Issues that I personally never had to deal with in an older non emission truck.

Then we have the shops, most are not interested in finding out what caused the problem, they just throw a new part on and send you on the way. I have been on the receiving end of that routine one to many times. Which in turn had me hunting down my own diagnostic equipment and tools. These trucks are a nightmare when you start digging into them. Most of the issues are sensor and CanBus related, not something you can address on your own without the proper diagnostic gear, including a laptop and software.

ELD/HOS are the least of my worries, keeping the truck running is priority one. I am finally there, knock on wood, and it only took 4 years and lots of greenbacks and lost revenue to get here. Saving grace, is that all is paid for. No truck payment and no credit cards, all done with cash.

"Screw you", that would be a big NO! I'm not into dudes ;-)

Look, reality is this, you are absolutely convinced (with an almost religious fanatical fervor) that it's your way, or the highway.

I get it, you're convinced that you've discovered the magical trucking elixir and can now use a broadbush to pigeonhole anyone else who's experience or business model doesn't line up with yours.

I'm happy for you and wish you a very Happy New Year!

Just going from personal experience and a long line of now friends with the same issues, Rawze.com. And I have no cure all, even though I did find Rawze that knew how to fix my truck, he gave me the tools to do just that, and I did in my driveway.

And I find it offensive that the government would mandate an entire industry do something that would be detrimental to so many. Look at Caterpillar, they shut down an entire side of their business due to the EPA mandates. And then we have International, they nearly went out of business due to their screw up with the MaxxFart. How many guys would have been put out of work if that would have went down? how many International dealers are there in this country? Every corn field seems to have one, that is a lot of folks. And they would have never been in that situation if not for the government.

How many folks lost everything on the manufacturer side (Cat and others) and the truck owner side? I know a few truck owners that went belly up due to these EPA mandated trucks, there are still class action suits out there. I was almost one of them, and it did cost me my marriage. I hung on and had the cash on hand to make things right, but it drained me in the process.

If you are having good luck with your EPA truck, good for you. But don't go pissing in my Wheaties because I beg to differ and have real facts to back it up.

    ;-)
