Rite Aid, CVS, McLane, Dollar General, and even some 3 party whse folks are NOTORIOUS for taking a long time. The closer to the east coast it is the longer the time it takes to unload, since now your talking about a 10 minute break for 50 minutes work, (union stuff) etc... Even being nice and saying that when you have 50 docks full there can only be so much time spent on one load at a time to get it right. Cause we all know that if something goes wrong, we WILL raise holy h3ll to make sure it's not OUR fault.
I try to be nice when I'm sitting for a while, cause it's not always the lumper or the receive person, but when I get to 4 plus hours, then I start to wonder how long it takes to unload 20 skids of XXX
I spent 3 hours at one of the above locations getting 5 skids off my trailer, but then at the same time I spent 2 hours getting 54 skids off and they said "subject to count" and let me go... since they knew it wasn't the drivers fault that the load was wrong... (Common sense was evident in that situation)![]()
Do all food distributors take forever to unload

UNFI, all of them should be burned to the ground. It's not just reefer's, try dry goods also. I've sat for 10 hrs to unload at the UNFI in Denver. Typically, my boss turns the loads down, or he quotes them exorbitant rates. If they still bite on it, he'll have one of our O/O's do it. King Soopers/Kroger, depending on the warehouse, not too bad. We get a bunch of random Sunday morning unloads for them, usually 2 to 3 hours on the clock, but they are typically straight pulls with no breakdown.
Target in Pueblo, Co., can vary from drop/hook to 10 hr unloads. Few years back, one of our day cabs ran one down, supposed to be a 4 hr unload, they released him with 30 minutes left on his 14. Boss had him get a hotel room for his 10, billed the customer 5x the hotel rate for the layover.Xeno124, Paddlewagon, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -

Food distributers follow three unwritten commandments.
1. Thou shalt take no fewer than 5 hours to load/unload.
2. Thou shalt post no fewer than 8 instructional signs writen in a demanding manner at the shipping/receiving window.
3. Thou shall be as condescending as possible to drivers at all times. -
“And he’th who shalt require unloading, shall be bestowed upon prices not conceivable by man or beast. Pay-ethable by the sacred elder scroll Comcheck”Metallica88, Truckermania, Canadianhauler21 and 3 others Thank this.
