Its explained, but not. We , you everybody understands mixed items on a pallet . Small wood, regular wood. The thing is, it is their order. Their product shipment. Their warehouse . If a pallet needs broke and rearranging why should the driver who brought shipment in, do it, or pay someone? A few years back had a 11pm appt. At 6 am next morning i am still at the dock. I think 45 an hour then for detention. i slept well. I never have done reefer, just dry. Still do some food if i am offered. Aldi saxonburg pa , some giant eagle. When i deliver to such places, i put my "hurry" attitude away for a while. Now days all set up with lumper service. I dont care how long they screw around unloading. 2 hours and on the clock.

Thou shalt be charged $100/hr detention, thou shalt pay it or thy next load shall be held in standby, @ $65/day.

Right. So what’s the problem. I’m a company driver. They demand I log time in sleeper and let someone else do the work. The shipper (vendor) reimburses the carrier’s payment to the lumper and this too was known ahead of time so the vendor buried this cost in the wholesale price to the grocer. As the lumper services raise prices, so too does the producer raise prices to the very grocers who contract the segregation/unload services (lumpers)

I learned a long time ago complaining about lumper charges was wasted energy. It’s not going anywhere so all you can do is accept it.

With many shipments, there is simply no way to segregate the entire shipment into the truck. Half the allowable tare weight would be consumed with pallets and increased freight costs would far exceed any lumper charges. Many items are slow movers or high value items and it’s only practical to order in small numbers/volume (“a pallet full”). All parties understand this and adapt.

Honestly? I'd rather do 10 live reefer loads/unloads at average of 2 hours at each dock rather than 10 drop/hooks with a mega where half the available empties have citable issues, and half of those may or may not be there ... 50+ miles away.

I played that game a while. Never again.

More like thou shalt attempt to trick drivers into signing arrival/departure paperwork with the time left blank and filled out afterwards to show no eligible detention to screw the driver out of funds owed in anyway possible.

We have a specific proof of delivery form we use, has company letterhead on it. I fill in the arrival time and depart time, I also call in both to dispatch which marks it on the billing card. I don't care what time Shipper or receiver puts in those boxes, I will put my corrected time in, circle and initial it.
