Hey , Im fairly new to trucking, 1 year. I am a lease buyer, "I do make money" other wise i would not do it. Now I only get X amount of cents per mile plus a FSC. I always try to keep my fuel costs low as I can, I run @ 60 MPH and usually get 6.8-7.3 MPG. Now there been times i have ran at 55MPH and Got 1-2 MPG more. My question is do any O/O's Run at 55MPH and not fudge the log book? Any Positive feedback is welcome, Thank you....

I'd rather haul loads that pay enough that I can afford to run the speed limit. If you are running 10-15 mph slower than everyone else, you are a crash looking for a place to happen....and when that happens, you'd dern sure better hope you haven't been fudging your log book because the person who ran under the rear of your trailer will probably call one of those 1-800-sue-a-trucker lawyers who WILL find any discrepancies in your paperwork and they use those discrepancies to prove negligence...which costs you more money than you would have spent in fuel running with the flow of traffic.
I work with a driver who was rear-ended on the interstate & received a citation for going too slow and obstructing traffic. He was running 50 mph (above the posted minimum speed for the road) while limping a blown tire up to the next exit instead of stopping on the shoulder of the highway to wait for a service truck to come out to him. Funny thing was, this happened shortly after Illinois raised the truck speed limit from 55 to 65...so a couple months earlier and he would have been within 5 mph of the posted maximum speed.
Slow traffic is a safety hazard. I refuse to drive on any road if the vehicle I'm driving can't do the speed limit on that road. -
Not the kind of input im looking for, But thanks anyways.

Would you rather someone feed you a line of bull excrement?LandShark Thanks this.

I want informantion on fuel economy, Your informantion provided had nothing to do with what I needed to know. Just your personal Opinion on your thoughts about "slow traffic". Thanks for you post -
Lol! Ya it's not the fault of the idiot not paying attention that runs run into the back of the slower truck.
Conservative to the Bone.hup Thanks this. -
Fuel economy is going to vary from truck to truck depending upon specs, the load, and the driver. You said in your post that you've run slower before and gave the results you have seen in your own truck...so what difference does it make what anyone else is doing? If you think it'll work for you, try it. If not, don't. Just make sure you realize that driving slow obstructs traffic, and could lead to being rear-ended. When that happens, your ducks had better be in a row because the distracted driver in the car WILL hire a lawyer, who WILL go over your paperwork with a fine tooth comb, and if they find any discrepancies, it will cost you more than you saved in fuel by driving slow.

...and that wasn't the question you asked.
I answered the exact question you asked in the negative, and gave you the reason why I do not.
If you wanted information about fuel economy, you should have asked about the fuel economy. -
If some one runs into me, 4 wheeler, big truck, rv, Who ever, well let them try to press charges against me. If im on I-80 on NE Speed Limit is 75 and Min is 45. If im running at 55MPH im safe as long as im on the right hand lane. If some 4 wheeler is texting or on the phone and smacks into me, well they can try to file a lawsuit against me, They wont win. There the ones not paying any attention to whats in front of them. Like wise to the big trucks that dont pay attention to whats in front of them. They should be paying attention to what they are doing. -
They can try to look at my logs, equipment, analize my driving habits anything. They wont find nothing but safe driving with only 2 points violation on my logs, because i did not log fuel at the right time. There is no law stateing that Big trucks "can not" drive 55mph any where, and interstate and or two lane US and State highway, Unless the posted min Speed limit is More then 55. I believe There would be less accidents, roll overs if big trucks traveled that slow.gnrfan1 Thanks this.
