    Just curious.....

What does everyone do when you have (un)planned extra time on the road while you are waiting for others to do you the favor of doing their jobs so you can GTFO and do yours? Like it or not, a lot of us do end up with extra time while either waiting for (un)loading, repairs, stuck behind a closed road due to weather, or unable to sleep on a DOT break....

For me, I'm building a 1/8 scale KITT (from a subscription plan kit with mostly metal components).... not only do I find it relaxing, but I've found it allows me to escape reality and be 8 again; it puts me in the mindset to recall and enjoy memories of similar projects with my dad since we lost him not long ago. This is EXACTLY the kind of project that we would have been doing when I was ACTUALLY 8!

I have it stored in 2 plastic totes, I use 1 for completed components and the other for components needing completion. I take them both out and go into the restaurant seating area and work on it for hours.....

There is no extra time for me.

I'm loading, unloading, driving, or sleeping.. Extra time is spent at home.

That model is awesome. I'd love to try out something more realistic and precise like that at some point. What's the subscription box called?

I'm sure both of these will get me called a child by the old timers lol, but building Lego sets and playing video games. Most of my friends play online video games as well, so it's a good way to keep in touch and 'hangout' with people back home while on the road. I can't sleep more than 6-7 hours, so by the time I shower and eat, I still have another couple hours to kill, so it doesn't interrupt my sleep at all. I don't play every night and I haven't in a while from changing jobs, but it is a nice distraction a few times a week

The more complex, high piece count Lego sets are good for 34's. It's a solid 3-12 hours of entertainment depending on the set and then I just take them home and use them as decoration in the mancave

Good for you.... I get paid extra NOT to touch the freight beyond securing it for travel, so I'm sitting on a lot of time sitting with my thumbs up my ^%^^%% waiting for others. And that's not mentioning shop time, I was recently stuck for 24 hours when my air compressor failed and needed to be replaced.... part was ordered, I went to sleep, in the morning, actual work started and I wasn't allowed to even be in the truck.... almost got a 34 hour reset out of it that I didn't need!

Go to www.fanhome.com; you will find something that appeals to you.... I'll probably take another one on after I'm done with this, just undecided which one.

I don't bump docks and hopefully never will again. When I was a door slammer dock time was sleep time. I always ran with outlaw companies where you take sleep when you can get it.
Same thing with shop time, hotel and sleep when it was possible.

True, but I can only sleep so much before I "run out" of it. And most shops won't let you stay in the truck while they are working. Most of my extended repair projects are done while I'm home, but I have had problems on the road that couldn't wait and weren't going to take enough time to need a hotel room.

Another situation that gives me extra unplanned time is when the schedule gives me so much time, I end up within 30 minutes of delivery on Saturday, but they don't want their crap bad enough to be there until Monday (or Tuesday if a holiday is involved). That happened to me just the other day with less than half of my current 70 used

I can’t keep track of crap in my truck I use daily much less pieces to a model, although I do think what you’re doing @Commuter69 is neat. I’m just not responsible enough to keep track of all those pieces. I don’t get any down time either throughout the day as I load, dump and go. But on my 10 I’ve been gettin into old western novels. Max Brand, Longarm, the Slocum series things of that sort. A few chapters of them fanning hammers on a revolver and shooting up a saloon, and babies don’t sleep as well as me.
