Even though I still don't believe you, you should go and buy lottery tickets.... I have had critical failures on the road, but everything we could plan for or otherwise can defer is done at our home terminal. I've only been towed once, and that was after a crash where some ID10T decided to drive drunk and hit me so hard, we had to total a trailer that took so much damage to the frame, it could not be repaired enough for even a school to use it for training. I was on the side of the road waiting for a tire replacement (blown drive tire). Here's just a few repairs we've had to do on the road with trucks I've been assigned:
Blockage in the fuel line causing 1 tank to overflow. The blockage was found to be what looked like a condom thrown into the tank that was overflowing. The previous driver must have pissed someone off.
Replacement radiator, took a rock from a passing untarped gravel truck.
Replaced coolant reservoir(2×) when the sensor thought it had no coolant (the sensor unit was gunked with sediment).
Replaced air compressor (could not maintain pressure while in motion, or build it when stationary)
Worn/blown tires
Brake pads
Various replacement lights
Broken fan belt
Multiple replacement mud flaps
Now that you’ve said it, Mr. Murphy is gonna come looking for you so he can bring balance to the universe!
Do any of you have hobbies that you bring to help with down time?

Back when I was OTR I would sit down with a deck of cards or a set of dominoes and see if I could instigate a game.

Drone videos.
I took this timelapse while stuck in Denver

If you check the Politics section on this site. You can see what I spend much of my time on. What is most important.
Otherwise... Been OTR for 5 years. I almost died 25 years ago. Lost everything. Four years ago, I had a load put off in Montana. So I went on a fly fishing float trip. Decided to get back into fly fishing. Kept rods in truck. Nothing much worked out. Was driving out of Denver. They got all kinds of problems in Colorado. They ain't got no problems in Montana. They'll work out anything with you. Pick you up at a truck stop. No problem. ... Anyways... I just switched jobs to a dedicated coast to coast run. I get though Montana every other week. I can work it so I can have a day of fishing anywhere in Montana on that week. Got a float trip booked now.Oxbow and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
I grow carnivorous plants for fun and profit, I work on computers, I play with my dogs, and I perpetually work on my landscaping and house.

A few times I would plan my trip so I could grab a motel room for a day, and grab some stuff for the kids.
Sometimes they have some very cool t-shirts. My all time favorite is the Bat-Moose t-shirt.WesternPlains Thanks this. -

I have way too many hobbies. I bring em on the road with me. Tonight, I'm camping in Montana. I keep all my camping gear in the truck.
I love fishing, so I keep two fly rods and all the gear.
I like floating rivers, especially whitewater. So I've got my kayak and all the gear in the truck.
I really like to hike, so i keep 2 packs in the truck, and get in some miles whenever possible.
I enjoy taking pictures, so i keep my camera and associated gear in the truck.
Fall and winter I throw a shotgun in the truck along with my duck calls.
A more recent addidtion is my motorcycle. It helps facilitate all the above.
CheersOxbow Thanks this. -
i have limited space in my basement for any more stuff related to my hobby.
also too, my blood level is kinda high, at like 29....it was 33, then dropped to 17, now back up again.
i wear latex gloves for cleaning and reloading.......but it might be from the dust, when i sweep up the range floor, so i started wearing a N95 mask.
right now, i have no problems finding primers.
they have been available, albeit more now than maybe what you paid for them 1 to 4 years ago.
me being "new" to reloading, i have no knowledge of the past costs, so to pay like $80 for 1,000 primers is "normal"
gunpowder prices are coming down to, right now, i have 8 lbs of Tite Group, i was able to obtain a few months ago.
