Correct me if im wrong. Didn't they teach map reading in school.

And for person who can't find the tunnel in Cincinnati. Look at central Cincinnati map...find 71 at top of the inset....follow it....you will see a bracket, 71 disappear, the bracket, then reappear, that is the tunnel

Yep the only way to be right is a paper and ink RM. Its never sent me down a wrong street a short underpass or got me lost.

Now best way to plan a route get a straight edge lay it across from start to end get a note pad write the roads down along that line go to front and make sure you can go that way with size load your pulling. TThat's all there is to it.

Used to only use RM but most new GPS' s are pretty dang close as long as updated often.
Been places gps was wrong and places RM map was wrong and sometimes both got to be able to think fast and pay attention. Call for directions look at gmaps watch signs ask locals.
So basicly use all the tools you can.
MJE yeah we can but why should we. When have these items to help? Well stand corrected maybe not. Cell phones are essential dont have payphones very many places anymore makes getting ld info i the first place next to impossible for an OTR driver.

in my opinion the use of a smartphone for the google earth satellite view is a MUST have for any truck driver. the ability to view the layout of the place your going is wonderful. it has definitely saved my tail. I rate the atlas #1 then a smartphone #2 and last would be a gps unit. all helpful tools to make the job easier.

i use the atlas all the time, google maps too, local directions and routing provided by the company, a garmin dezl 760, and my memory... If I use the atlas I get in there and know exactly what i'm looking for and it doesn't take very long.
